Virgle Truly Calvert

Virgle Truly Calvert
March 15, 1926 ~ March 22, 2014

On Saturday March 22, 2014, Virgle went to be with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ while at the Muskogee VA Hospital. He was 88 years old. Virgle Calvert was born on March 15, 1926 in the town of Mustang, OK. He was the fourth child and second son of Hiram and Izora Calvert.

Virgle was a dedicated retired minister, WWII Purple Heart and US Army veteran, with a heart for the ministry. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Virgle was a pastor for five churches over 33 years and Senior Adult Pastor at Southeast Baptist Church in Muskogee for 12 years.

He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids.

Virgle was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Doris of the home; three sons Bob Calvert and his wife Karen of Attleboro, MA, Larry Calvert and his wife Diann of Oilton, OK and David Calvert and his wife Karla of Muskogee, OK; three daughters by choice Karen McCombs of Glencoe, OK, Cindy Eckley of Bishopville, SC and Kathy Dorl of TX; one son by choice Bill Edmondson and his wife Linda of Noble, OK; seven granddaughters, Tiffany and husband Jerry Wilson, Terra and husband Mike Hills, Carrisa and husband Steve Anderson, Courtney and husband Ryan Stiles, Chelsea and husband Stephen Brown, Vanessa and husband Kayle Snyder and Madison and Ally Calvert; one grandson Justin Calvert and wife Whitney; nine great grandchildren Christian, Jacob and Emma Wilson, McKenzie, Isaac, Taya and Cohen Brown, Anderson Calvert and Peyton Anderson. Virgle was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center, 1011 Honor Heights Dr., Muskogee, OK 74401 or Southeast Baptist Church, 2511 E. Hancock Street, Muskogee, OK 74403. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday March 26, 2014 at Southeast Baptist Church with Reverend Doug Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery.
