Hartense (Williams) Brown

Hartense (Williams) Brown
May 17, 1935 ~ July 25, 2020

Hartense Williams Brown was born May 17, 1935 in Okay, Oklahoma to Wiley and Estella Green Williams, who preceded her in death. Hartense attended Lincoln High school in Wagoner, where she graduated in 1954 with honors.

She married Carl Brown on June 28, 1953, and to that union they were blessed with three beautiful children. Hartense was a loving and faithful wife for fifty four years. She accompanied Carl during his twenty two years in the Army living in Germany, Okinawa, and many states during that time. After Carl retired in 1972, they made Muskogee, Oklahoma their home.

At a young age, Hartense professed her love and commitment to Christ, while attending the First Baptist Church in Okay, Oklahoma. She united with the Church of God in Christ while living at Fort Hood. This Journey would span over five decades with Hartense working in the church in various capacities. Goodwill Church of God in Christ in Muskogee was her Church home. Under the Leadership of Elder John Martin, she worked tirelessly as a member and trustee. Hartense was chosen to be the district Missionary for the Muskogee District of Church of God in Christ, a position she held until December 2010.

Through the years, Hartense held a desire to continue her education and in 1979 Hartense graduated from Bacone College with a 4.0 GPA. This was just the beginning, as Hartense continued her education at North Eastern University graduating with her Bachelor's degree and later her Master's Degree all while carrying a 4.0 average. Hartense went on to teach school in Muskogee as a Speech Pathologist, Science, and Remedial Reading educator. She touched the lives of all of her students and made a lasting impression with all of them. Her career was cut short in 1997 when she retired to take care of Carl, whose health was beginning to fail.

Left to cherish her memories is her children, Dr. Rodney Lee Brown and wife Donna of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jacqueline Stake of Houston, Texas, Brenda McBride and husband Clarence of Muskogee, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, LaDetria Broom and husband Carl, Corey Brown and wife Brandy, Sean Wilson and wife Jennifer, Jonathon Brown, Andrea Weddington, Darrell Weddington, Courtney Gibbs; numerous great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
