John Henry Barnett

John Henry Barnett
June 16, 1929 ~ September 21, 2011

John Henry Barnett, 82, of Warner, Oklahoma was called home to his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. John was born June 16, 1929 in Braggs, Oklahoma to Roy M. Barnett and Crystal Matheny Barnett. He was the second of thirteen children. He attended public schools in Fort Gibson and graduated valedictorian of his class in 1946.

In January 1948 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country as a radio operator 3rd Class on the USS Renville, USS Eldorado, and USS Errol until his honorable discharge in January 1952.

John then started a career in wholesale plumbing, heating and air business as a general manager at Muskogee Supply Inc. After his retirement, he pursued his lifelong dream of raising and racing registered quarter and thoroughbred horses. He always enjoyed the outdoors and staying busy doing what he loved. Sunday morning became the most important day of the week to him as he would get to spend it in fellowship with his Christian friends worshipping the Lord at Blue Ribbon Downs Chapel.

John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Frank Barnett; and sisters, Opal Tarpley and Blanche Igert.

He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn Cole Barnett of the home; his five children, John H. Barnett Jr. and wife Dorothy of Houston, Texas, Pamela Gosnell and husband Charles of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Jeffrey Barnett and wife Mary of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Paula Cook and husband Kendall of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, and Clint Barnett and wife Stephanie of Topeka, Kansas. His legacy lives on in his twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren with two more due in April. His surviving brothers and sisters include Jean Smith, Bill Barnett, Roy Barnett, Barbara Wilson, Ross Barnett, James Barnett, Shirley Baldwin, Linda Pierce, and Brenda Conine, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and loved ones.

He will be missed by his many family members and friends he made over the years. Funeral service will be 12:30 p.m., Monday, September 26, 2011 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry Green officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Teasie McCrary Jr., Nolan Pevehouse, Ronnie Pevehouse, Jason Synar, Bill Griffin, and Kevin Macon. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Barnett Jr., Charles Gosnell, Kendall Cook, Brian C. Gosnell, John H. Barnett III, Grant Cook, Colton Anderson, Becky Carlton, and Jim Cole.

Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home and Crematory, 1830 North York Street, Muskogee, Oklahoma. Condolences may be made to the family at www.cornerstoneofmuskogee.com
