Funeral services for Sara Lorraine Young, 87, who died Thursday, November 15, 2001 at Kenwood Manor in Enid, Oklahoma, was held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, November 18, 2001 at Lanman Funeral Home Chapel in Cherokee, Oklahoma officiated by Rev. Ray Swift. Burial followed at Auburn Cemetery, west and south of Cherokee.
Arrangements were by Lanman Funeral Home of Cherokee. She was born in Joplin, Missouri on January 5, 1914, the daughter of David and Dora (Edwards) Williams. She moved with her family to Bristow, Oklahoma, then later to Cherokee where she was living when she married Virgil Young on December 19, 1935. After their marriage they lived on a farm west of Cherokee that her father-in-law had homesteaded in "the Run". Then they moved into Cherokee where she lived for 30 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Cherokee. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Duane and Susan Young of Plano, Texas; Larry and Pat Young of Enid, Oklahoma; Joyce and Ron Manning of Enid, Oklahoma; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil in January 2000; one sister and one brother. Memorials may be made to the Ataxia Foundation through the Lanman Funeral Home of Cherokee.
