WHITE, RUTH (McPROUD) 1908-2001
Services for Ruth White, 93, were held Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at Aline United Methodist Church with Rev. Lyle Shipley officiating. Burial was at the Aline Star Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home of Helena. Ruth was born January21, 1908 on the Geelin family homestead near South Haven, Kansas to Osborn King and Edit Caroline Geeslin McProud. Her early years were spent in South Haven where she started grade school. Her parents move to a farm near Watonga and she completed grade school and started high school in Greenfield. Ruth moved with her family to Cherokee the summer before her senior year in high school, where she graduated from Cherokee High School. Ruth attended Northwestern State Teachers College. Upon receiving her Bachelors Degree and a Lifetime Teaching Certificate, she began her teaching career in a one-room school at Lincoln Center. She taught in several of them throughout Alfalfa County, Woods County, and Major County. She taught in both the grade school and high school in Aline and Cleo Springs, retiring from the Aline-Cleo school system after completing thirty-one years as an educator. While teaching in the Oak Grove one-room school near Aline, she met and was courted by Max Ferguson White. Max and Ruth were married in the home of her mother in Enid on October 30, 1936. The ceremony was conducted by her brother, Carl McProud. They established a home on a farm one and one half mile south of Aline, where Max farmed and Ruth continued to teach. They were the parents of three daughters, Karen Ann, Ellen Kaye, and Karla Maxine. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, and two brothers. She is survived by two daughters, Karen Ann Engle and Ellen Kay Reihm; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; her brother, Carl E. McProud; and many other relatives.
