Gottfried Winter was born August 15, 1861 in Bawilna, Russia. His parents were Jacob and Eva Seibert. In his childhood he was Baptized and after receiving religous instruction, was confirmed in his 15th year. In 1883 he married Maria Katharina Blehm and this marriage was blessed with 13 children, however, 9 of these children preceded their father into eternity. He came with his family in 1902 to this country and after a short stop in Okeene, Oklahoma, the family came to Windsor, Colorado in 1904, where the deceased became a co-founder of our Windsor Congregation. Afterwards, he lived in Fort Collins, Eaton, and Ault, Colorado, and was, since 1937 a member of our St. Paul's Congregation. Since the death of his wife, in1928, he made his home interchangeably with his children, by whom he was lovingly taken care of till the end of his life. He died after some suffering on Tuesday morning, July 28, 1953. He leaves behind four children: Mrs. Conrad Fiet, Denver, Colorado; Mrs Fred Winter, Ault, Colorado; Mrs. Fred Snyder, Eaton, Colorado; and Fred J. Winter, Greeley, Colorado; 19 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren, as well as other relatives and friends. On August 1, the tired pilgrim was brought to his final resting place, leaving from our church, in the Fort Collins Cemetery.
