SPRING, MARIE (GRANTZ) 1866-1938
ANOTHER PIONEER IS CLAIMED BY DEATH - Mrs. John Spring, a pioneer resident of this community, died at her home in Okeene, Saturday, March 12, 1938 following a brief illness. She had reached the age of 71 years and 5 months. Following is the obituary.
Marie Grantz, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Adam Grantz, was born in Oberdorf, Russia, October 12, 1866, where she spent her girlhood. In December 1884, she was married to Mr. John Spring and in 1886 they came to America to establish their home and enjoy the blessings of well-lived lives. To this union 10 children were born. Six children and her loving husband remain to grieve her sudden passing. The children are: Mrs. Mary Huffman, Loma, Colorado; Mrs. Mollie Reed, Medford, Oregon, Mrs. Hannah Weber, Okeene, Oklahoma; Mrs. Pearl Frick, Durham, Kansas; Ben J. Spring, Lodi, California; Dave A. Spring, Okeene, Oklahoma. She is also survived by two brothers, two sisters, 24 grandchildren11 great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Besides rearing her own family she has been mother to one of the grandchildren, Dorothy, since her mothers death. Upon coming to America, the family located in Marion, Kansas. They came to Oklahoma in 1899 and settled on the farm south of Okeene and remained there until a year ago when they moved to Okeene. Mrs. Spring was converted and joined the Church of God in 1889 and with her family has been a loyal, useful member until the last. Less than a week before her death she had gone to a neighboring church and enjoyed a sermon from a former pastor. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Okeene, Tuesday afternoon, March 15, conducted by Rev. Reuber of Bessie, assisted by the local pastor, Rev. R. H. Campbell. Interment was in Peaceful Cemetery. The Rice Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. As printed in the "OKEENE RECORD" Thursday, March 17, 1938, Okeene, Blaine County, Oklahoma.
