LEONARD, ELLA MAE (HAAS-SPOHN) 1904-1999
WINFIELD - Ella Mae Leonard, 95, died December 18th, 1999, at Cumbernauld Village, Winfield, Kansas. She was born May 13th, 1904, at Okeene, Oklahoma, the daughter of Jacob and Mollie (Schuber) Haas. She graduated from Chapman High School. A former Newton resident, she was a partner in Leonard Builders Company, where she helped build more than 100 homes in Newton, Kansas. She belonged to First United Methodist Church, Newton, where she was a member of United Methodist Women and the Fidelis Sunday School class. On August 14, 1924, she married John Spohn at Abilene. He died in 1945. On August 4, 1946, she married Roy H. Leonard at Wichita. He died September 8, 1976. Survivors include: a daughter: Shirley Jester of Winfield, Kansas; a grandchild, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. Privae graveside service will be in Greenwood Cemetery of Newton, Kansas. Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton, Kansas, with the Rev. Jay Anderson presiding. Friends may call from 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent to the United Methodist Committee on Relief or Habitat for Humanity, Winfield, Kansas, both in care of the funeral home.
