DOANE, B. G. 1929-2002
Funeral services for B. G. "Bud" Doane, 72, were held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at the Fairview First Baptist Church. The Reverend David Mendenhall officiated. Burial followed in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Fairview Funeral Home, Inc. B. G. Doane was born May 14, 1929 in rural Fairview, Oklahoma to Clarence Ray and Edna Louise (Martin) Doane and died January 5, 2002 at the Integris Bass Baptist Hospital in Enid, Oklahoma. Bud was born and raised in the Fairview area and graduated from Fairview High School in 1947. Bud was an outstanding football player and was the captain of Fairview's First State Championship team of 1946. After high school Bud attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma on an athletic scholarship. In 1951 he joined the United States Marine Corps and served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955. Bud married Dorothea Reyburn on June 4, 1954 in Fairview. There were two sons born to this union. After his discharge Bud moved to Wichita where he worked at Boeing. He returned to Fairview in 1957. On September 20, 1958 he married Carlene Ruth Smith in Amarillo, Texas. The two briefly lived in Canyon, Texas where he attended West Texas State University. The couple and their family of four daughters and two sons traveled extensively, returning to Oklahoma in 1972. They lived in the Watonga and Greenfield area until 1983, when they made their home in Fairview. Bud was a loving father who enjoyed teaching his children sports and music and supported them in everything they did. Bud loved to attend all sports events and was a Yellowjacket and Whippet Booster. He was always on the go, and liked to be busy. He liked to play cards and drink coffee with his friends and truly enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. He is survived by his wife Carlene Doane; four sons: Barry Doane of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Larry Doane and his wife Debbie of Moore, Oklahoma; Roger Doane of Fairview and Ross Doane and his wife Lynn of Okeene, Oklahoma; three daughters: Carla Schultz and husband Brent of Okeene; Laura Hutton and husband Jeff of Fairview; and Barbara Wedel and husband James of Fairview; one brother, Kenneth and his wife Shirley of Wichita, Kansas and 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Rayetta Furnas, and one daughter, Rebecca Carmack. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to M.A.G.B.
