January 10, 1947
MAXWELL
Westville was saddened by the death of Tom MAXWELL, age 69, who died when his home burned early Tuesday morning.
MAXWELL had been in ill health for some time and was confined to his home west of the K.C.S. depot at the time of his death.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon by Rev. James SMITH. burial was in the Westville Cemetery.
Known survivors are one nephew and three nieces all living in California.

BIGBY
Thomas B. BIGBY of Stilwell passed away Wednesday morning at 7:40 o'clock.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
He is the brother of Kate and David BIGBY of Westville.


February 28, 1947
NEFF / BREWER
NEFF / BREWER Wendell NEFF, son of Jim NEFF of Stilwell, was killed Saturday night at 12:30 p.m. in an automobile accident which occured one and one-half miles east of Stilwell.
J.B. BREWER was accidentally killed, Tuesday, six miles east of Stilwell.


March 7, 1947
HILLARD
W.L. HILLARD was born May 19, 1882 near Kingston, Ark., and departed this life February 27, 1947 at the age of 64 years, 9 months and 8 days in the City Hospital in Fayetteville, Ark., of heart ailment from which he has suffered for some time.
He was married to Edith WRIGHT of Kingston, on January 6, 1907. To this union was born one daughter, Bessie Henderson of Detroit, Michigan.
Mr. HILLARD grew to manhood and was educated in Madison County, Ark. He was actively interested in lumber, stave and timber business in N.W. Ark., for many years.
He moved to Okla., in 1935 and located at Westville early in 1936 where he was in active business until February 1, 1946.
Mr. HILLARD believed in helping those in need and often headed the list of donations for the needy.
He is survived by his wife, Edith HILLARD, his daughter, Mrs. Bessie HENDERSON, of Detroit, Michigan; two sisters, Mrs. Arley SPARKS of Huntsville, Ark., Mrs. Addie LABORNE of Fayetteville, Ark.; five nieces, one nephew and a host of freinds to mourn his passing.
Funeral services were conducted in the Roberts Funeral Home Chapel Sunday afternoon, by Rev. James SMITH and burial was in the Westville Cemetery.
LUNA
W.E. LUNA, age 66 years, nine months and 23 days died Sunday morning at 3 o'clock after a long illness.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at New Hope by Eld. Clark WILSON. Interment was in the New Hope Cemetery.
Mr. LUNA has been a resident of Watts for the past 38 years and was engaged in farming during that time.
He is survived by his wife, two adopted children, Harvey LUNA of White City, Kansas, and Maudie GOSS of Wray, Colo., and ten grandchildren; also a niece, Opal KING of Morris, Okla., and a nephew Willie LUNA, Pryor, Okla., whom he and Mrs. LUNA reared from childhood.

ELLER
Mrs. Lena ELLER died Tuesday afternoon in the John Brown University Hospital after a long illness.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at Roberts Funeral Home and burial was in Johnson Cemetery at Mosley, Oklahoma.
She is survived by her husband, Troy ELLER, three children, and her father, Cal JOHNSON.
WALKER
Mrs. Mae MILLER, Mrs. Nellie and J.R. COX attended the funeral of Eli WALKER at Siloam Springs and burial at Westville, Sunday.

DUDLEY
William David DUDLEY was born in Clay County, Arkansas, August 27, 1867.
He departed this life March 16, 1947 at the age of 79 years.
DUDLEY came to Westville at an early age. He has been a Christian for many years.
Survivors are one sister, Mrs. Ella ALBERTY of Tulsa, five nephews, six nieces and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Roberts Funeral Chapel by Rev. Harvey HUMAN. Interment was at Alberty Chapel Cemetery.
ROBINSON
James Kilburn ROBINSON was born June 14, 1866 at Monon, Indiana, and died Wednesday morning March 12, at 9:30 o'clock at the home of his son, William A. ROBINSON of Westville.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia, of Westville, five sons, Everett, of Mobile, Alabama; George W., of Huntington, Ind.; Delbert, of Cleveland, Ohio; Winfield B., of Crestline, Calif.; and William A. ROBINSON of Westville; one grandson; two granddaughters, one great grandson; one brother; two half brothers and one half sister.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. ROBINSON, and the body was shipped to Pawnee, Oklahoma, for interment.


March 28, 1947
KIRK
William Edward KIRK was bortn at Westville, Oklahoma, October 28, 1886 and departed this life March 23, at his home, at the age of 61 years.
He was married to Miss Lillie BUMBALOW, February 25, 1908 and to this union were born seven children, three having preceded him in death. he leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Lillie, of Westville; two sons, John D. and J.B. KIRK both of Tulsa; two daughters, Edith BROAD of Okmulgee, Delorse May of the home; also two brothers, Finis THURMAN of Kansas City and John KIRK of Westville; two sisters, Mrs. Lina MARTIN, of Westville and Mrs. Lillie MILLS of Drumright, Okla.; four grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at Roberts Funeral Chapel by Rev. John DRYDEN and burial was in the Foreman Cemetery.

BUMBALOW-HAMPTON
Juanita BUMBALOW HAMPTON was born March 8, 1922 in Tulsa, Okla., and departed this life Sunday morning, March 23, 1947 about eight o'clock.
She leaves to mourn her departure; her mother, Mrs. Charlie BUMBALOW; four sisters, Mrs. Jewel CAGLE, Mrs. Elsie HANKINS, Mrs. Montez PAYTE and Lillie Lou BUMBALOW; one brother, Graten Charles BUMBALOW; several aunts and uncles and a host of friends.
Juanita was saved about eight years ago at Tulsa, Oklahoma, while Rev. John BUNNELL was conducting a revival there.
Her dying testimony was that she was ready to go. She bore her suffering with patience and sang religious songs, putting her trust in God until the end.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Funeral Chapel by Rev. John BUNNELL and burial was in the Baptist Mission Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.

DYE
Mrs. Martha E. DYE was born June 6, 1882 to Mr. and Mrs. Z.T. LANGLEY at Ellijay, Georgia, and passed away March 23, 1947 at the age of 64 years, nine months and 17 days.
She was converted and united with the Baptist Church in 1897.
In 1900 she was married to Marshall Wagnor [Wagnon] and to this union was born one son, Julian Wagnor with whom she was making her home.
Besides this son she is survived by one sister of the home address, two brothers, Marion LANGLEY of Susanville, Calif., Charley LANGLEY address unknown, three granddaughters and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conductred Wednesday, March 26 at the Roberts Funeral Chapel by Rev. James SMITH, pastor of the Westville Baptist Church. Burial was in the Westville Cemetery.
The following songs were sung; "Take the Name of Jesus with You," "What a Friends we have in Jesus," and "Sweet Bye and Bye."
PETITE
Frank PETITE of Claremore and brother-in-law of Mrs. George HAGAN was killed by an automobile last Friday.
Mrs. and Mrs. George HAGAN of Westville attended funeral services.

COUCH
R.H. COUCH, 80 year old Tahlequah resident and former judge in Cherokee county, died at his home there at 2:00 p.m. Monday following a lingering illness.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 Wednesday in the 1st Baptist Church of Tahlequah with Rev. James H. HOGG, pastor, officiating and Masonic rites held at the graveside in the cemetery.
Survivors include his widow, of the home; three sons, F.B. COUCH of Enid, G.W. COUCH of Tahlequah, and R.L. COUCH of Philadelphia; two brothers, Fred COUCH of Amarillo, Texas, and Ralph COUCH of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and two sisters, Mrs. Madge KEENE and Mrs. Art MCGUIRE of Fayetteville, Arkansas.

WAGNON
Mrs. Ella WAGNON was born November 13,1897, to Mr. and Mrs. Isaac PACK at Proctor, Okla.[Indian Territory], and died April 9, 1947, at the age of 49 years, four months and 27 days.
She is survived by her husband Tom WAGNON; two sons, Thomas and Randall; one daughter, Laura; two sisters, Mrs. Dave SMITH, and Mrs. James ARMSTRONG, both of Las Cruces, New Mexico; four brothers, Fred and Clayton PACK of Westville, Ted PACK of Stilwell and Floyd PACK of Newark, Ohio; also a host of friends and relatives.
Funeral services were conducted Friday at Roberts Funeral Chapel by Rev. James SMITH, pastor of the Westville Baptist Church, and burial was in New Hope Cemetery, with Roberts Funeral Home, directing.
ELLER
Willis H. ELLER, was born December 2, 1851 and died April 8, 1947 at the age of 95 years.
Funeral Services were conducted Wednesday afternoon by Bro. E.T. ODLE and burial was in the Baptist Mission Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
FOX
Funeral services for Mrs. Fannie FOX, 77 year old Watts pioneer resident, were held Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church, with the pastor, Rev. MOSER, officiating.
Burial was at Siloam Springs.
Survivors are her husband, George FOX, son Leo DAVISON and other relatives.
Mrs. FOX was a fine character and loved by all who knew her.
RICHARDS
Mr. W.F. LANGLEY and Mrs. Millie SIMMONS attended funeral services of their brother-in-law, J. M RICHARDS, in Titantic Friday.

Mrs. W.M. CHENOWETH, returned home Saturday from Moreland, Oklahoma, ten miles from Woodward, where she had been at the bedside of her brother, A.J. BUSH, who passed away, April 13.

FREEDLE
Mrs. Artie M. HARRIS of Hobart was called to the bedside of her brother, George Wiley FREEDLE of Kansas, Oklahoma, who suffered a stroke on April 14.
He passed away April 18, leaving his wife, Trecia FREEDLE, two sons, Gaylord of Auburn, Calif., and George of the home address; three daughters, Mrs. Ava ANDERSON, Mrs. Jewell STEPHENS and Mrs. Hazel BURKE, all of Corcoran, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. HARRIS of Hobart, and Mrs. Dean MARRS of this city and one brother, Crocket FREEDLE of Westville.
He was laid to rest in the Kansas Cemetery.
BENTLY
Guy BARE was in Oklahoma City first of the week to attend the funeral of his brother-in-law, I.G. BENTLY.

REYNOLDS
Mrs. Effie REYNOLDS passed away May 4th at the age of 76 years, nine months and four days.
She was united in marriage to S.B. REYNOLDS in 1886. To this union were born two children, W.W. REYNOLDS of Campbell, Calif., and Mrs. Laura ELMORE of Westville. Mrs. REYNOLDS was converted in the Free Will Baptist Church but later accepted the Pentecostal faith.
Besides the two children she leaves to mourn her death eleven grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. A.F. COOPER,; one niece, Mrs. J.P. WOODALL; and one nephew, E.J. COOK of Holdenville; and her husband S.B. REYNOLDS of Westville.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, by Rev. John BUNNELL at the Roberts Funeral Home and burial was in the City Cemetery.
SELLS
Andy J. SELLS was born in Tennessee, September 12, 1866 and departed this life May 11, 1947 at 10:00 o'clock p.m., at the age of 80 years and eight months.
He was united in marriage to Mary OWEN, October 23, 1890.
He professed faith in Christ and joined the Methodist Church when he was a young man.
Mr. SELLS leaves his wife and a host of friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 13, at the Roberts Funeral Home by Rev. Harvey HUMAN and interment was in the Westville Cemetery with the I.O.O.F. Lodge from Westville and Lincoln in charge of grave side services.
CUNNINGHAM
George HAVENS was called to Hollywood, Calif., March 27th, to be at the bedside of his mother, Mrs. Millis CUNNINGHAM, where he remained until her death, which occured April 25.
Her body was taken to Anadarko, Oklahoma for burial.

MEREDITH
Mrs. Dorothy GREEN MEREDITH was born September 15, 1917 and died May 14, 1947, at the age of 29 years and 8 months. She was united in marriage to Lester J. MEREDITH on March 28, 1947.
Survivors include her husband and two children; her father, Jess GREEN of California; two sisters, Thelma GREEN of Westville and Mrs. Mae FRAZIER of California; also one brother of California and a host of relatives and friends. Mrs. MEREDITH left a testimony that she was ready to go.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, May 18, at the Roberts Funeral Home by Rev. Arthur ESSARY. Burial was in the Wrights Chapel Cemetery.

FOREMAN
Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Roxie FOREMAN of Tucson, Arizona, who passed away, February 26.
Mrs. FOREMAN was the daughter of Richard PIERCE of Westville.
COLEMAN
Word was received this morning of the death of Mrs. Louise COLEMAN of Oelwein, Iowa, Wednesday evening at 6:15 p.m.
Mrs. COLEMAN is the mother of Lyle COLEMAN of Westville.

CRITTENDEN
Cicero G. CRITTENDEN was born to Mr. and Mrs. Henry CRITTENDEN at Westville, Oklahoma [Indian Territory] on June 7, 1886, and departed this life May 28, 1947, being 60 years 11 months and 21 days.
He was married to Ina MARRS in 1908 and to this union two children were born, Calvin CRITTENDEN of Tulsa and Virginia who preceded him in death about 12 years ago.
Those left to mourn the passing of Mr. CRITTENDEN are his widow and son and two brothers, Bill CRITTENDEN and Charley CRITTENDEN, of Westville community. Funeral services were conducted, Thursday, at the Roberts Funeral Home by Rev. J.H. SMITH.
Burial was in the Crittenden Cemetery.
CARTER
Helen E. CARTER was born in New York state, and moved to Westville in 1903. When she came here she was the wife of Major Von HARTMAN, who died some 17 years later. She was then married to Mr. R.T. CARTER, who died several years ago.
Mrs. CARTER was active in civic and church affairs, before her health failed. which has confined her to her home for the past several years. She has served as worthy matron of the Eastern Star Chapter and was made a life long member of this organization. She has been a life long member of the Presbyterian church and has been very active in this work. It was the giving up of her church duties that grieved her most.
Mrs. CARTER died May 31st, the outcome of an attack of influenza from which she was never able to recover.
She is well known throughout this community and state, having been engaged in the real estate business for many years. Mrs. CARTER was in sympathy with the under priviledged people of this town, and it was through her kindness that many have been helped and encouraged.
Survivors include one son, Charles ROBINSON, of Chicago, Illinois, two granddaughters, Helen and Dorothy, both of Chicago, and three step daughters. One son preceded her in death about three years ago.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Roberts Funeral Home. Burial was in the Westville Cemetery.

CRITTENDEN
Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. George CRITTENDEN of Pryor, which occured Saturday night.
She is a sister-in-law of Martin CRITTENDEN of Westville.

CHESNEY
Word has been received here by Mrs. Bert NEEL, of the death of her uncle, Frank CHESNEY, of Claremore. Mr. CHESNEY was 82 years of age.

CARRINGTON
Mrs. Eva Carolyn CARRINGTON was born March 20, 1872 and departed this life June 17, 1947.
She ws united in marriage to Thomas H. RECTOR in 1889. To this union were born eleven children 10 of which survive, Irene MACY, and Roy RECTOR of Muskogee, Fred of Pawhuska, Ola and Ruby of Tulsa, Arvil and Clarance of Fort Collins, Colo., Lacy and Rabe of Westville; 34 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
She became a member of the Holiness Church in 1913, of which she remained until her death.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.E. HARRIS of Muskogee, in the Westville Pentecostal Holiness Church Wednesday, June 18. Burial was in Westville Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
FOWLER
Mrs. Minnie FOWLER of Gravette, Ark., passed away, Sunday night in a Siloam Springs hospital.
Mrs. FOWLER is a sister-in-law of T.H. FOWLER of near Westville.
PENCE
Mrs. Hester PENCE, age 69 years and 16 days, passed away Monday morning at the home of her sister, Mrs. Pearl RICHARDS, near Stilwell.
Survivors include her husband, A.C. PENCE of Westville; three sisters, Mrs. Pearl RICHARDS, and Mrs. Dora BURGESS of Stilwell, and Mrs. Ary HAYS of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Thomas and Earl BURGESS of Titantic.
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Titantic Baptist church. The Roberts Funeral Home of Stilwell had charge of arrangements.

NEEL
Word has been received by the Record of the death of James Howard NEEL of Kansas City, son of Dr. E.A. NEEL of Siloam Springs and nephew of Dr. Bert NEEL of Westville
DIAL
Alex DIAL, 38 year old farmer of the Chewey Community was shot to death, late Friday afternoon when he went to the home of Sam KIRK, age 65, who lives two miles southeast of Chewey.
According to KIRK, who was released on $1500 bond after peading not guilty in his case, Saturday morning before Justice of the Peace, A. DORNBACK, DIAL came to his home and started a riot which lead to the shooting.


Friday, July 18, 1947
NICKEL
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, July 13, by Rev. James H. SMITH, at the Roberts Funeral Chapel for Mrs. Maxine NICKEL, who was the victim of an automobile wreck near Seneca, Mo., Thursday, July 10.
Burial was in the Baptist Mission Cemetery.
Mr. NICKEL and baby, who were also in the wreck were rushed to a hospital. He is reported to be in a critical condition.
Maxine RUSSELL was born to Mr. and Mrs. James B. RUSSELL near Westville March 7, 1919 and departed this life July 10, 1947, at the age of 28 years four months and three days.
She was married to Hershel A. NICKEL of Schenectady, N.Y., September 1940. To this union was born one daughter, Carol Jean, age 3.
Besides her husband and daughter, she leaves to mourn her passing, her mother, Mrs. Ellen RUSSELL of Westville, five brothers, Joe RUSSELL of Pittsburg, Kansas; Paul of Summers, Arkansas; Haskel of the home address; Walter and James B. Jr., of Westwood, Calif., and four sisters, Alice RUSSELL of the home address; Ollie CONDREAY of Westville; Pearl WILKIE and Stella Mae BRANCHCOMB of Westwood, California.
LYONS
Mr. Henry Guinn was called to Spring Creek to attend the funeral of his nephew, Loyd LYONS, who passed away July 11th

BROWN
Word has been received here of the death of G.M. BROWN, of Fort Worth, Texas, at the age of 73 years. Mr. BROWN was a resident of Westville from 1918 until 1930, during which time he was engaged in the Flour and Feed Co., of Westville with the late T.J. WHITAKER.
Survivors are his wife, two sons, David H. and Guy M. BROWN Jr.; and a daughter, Mrs. William SHELTON, all of Fort Worth; three grandchildren; two brothers, Lee of Oklahoma nd Harwood BROWN of New Mexico; three sisters, Misses Gertrude, Flora and Jane BROWN, all of Minneapolis; and a half sister, Mrs. Mary GRAY, of Dallas.


Friday, August 8, 1947
SUMMERS
William SUMMERS of Summers, Arkansas, died Monday evening at a Fayetteville hospital.
Mr. SUMMERS was born, October 19, 1891 in Summers and spent his entire life there, part time as a merchant and part time as railroad man. He was an agent for the Frisco Railroad for 31 years, having retired some few years ago.
Survivors include his wife, one son, three brothers, three sisters.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in the Methodist church at Summers. Burial was in the Summers Cemetery.
GORDON
Mrs. Ida GORDON, age 64 years and seven months, died at her home near Ballard, August 2, after a long illness.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday by Bro. E.T. ODLE. Burial was in the Baptist Mission Cemetery.
Mrs. GORDON is survived by her husband, J.H. GORDON of Watts, eight children, Mrs. Vado FLETCHER, Fred GORDON, Grace GORDON and Glover GORDON of Watts; Rosa GORDON of Westville; Ray GORDON of Morton, Washington; Mrs. Hazel PILKERTON of Siloam Springs; and Duffy GORDON of the home; nine grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Ike MORRIS of Watts and Mrs. Jim ODLE of Skiatook, Oklahoma; one brother, Tom MCCOY of Watts and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. GORDON was converted and joined the Baptist Church of Ballard in 1906, and was a member of this church at the time of her death.
LILLIE
Funeral services for Park L. LILLIE, age 87 years, were conducted Wednesday, August 6, at the Roberts Funeral Chapel, with Rev. James SMITH, Baptist Pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Westville Cemetery.
Mr. LILLIE passed away, August 3, at his home in Tahlequah where he and his wife moved about a year ago. Prior to that time they were making their home in Westville. He leaves his wife to mourn his passing.
OSBOURN
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, August 8, at the Baptist Mission for J.M. OSBOURN, age 35 years. Death came suddenly to Mr. OSBOURN, Sunday at his home at Watts.


Friday, August 15, 1947
LEWIS
Mrs. J.W. LEWIS who has lived on her farm nine miles north west of town, for the past 17 years, died at the City Hospital in Tahlequah on the 6th day of August.
Her husband had passed on about 11 years ago. Since that time Mrs. LEWIS has carried on alone. She has successfully operated a local hatchery and has been an outstanding leader in her Club work and other community activities.
She is survived by one brother of Newton, Kansas, and her daughter, Mrs. Lola YESBERGER, and two grandchildren, Gary and Darlene, all of Pueblo, Colorado. Many friends grieve at her passing.
Funeral services were held at the Roberts Funeral Chapel Sunday morning, August 10th. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Siloam Springs
CARLISLE
Albert CARLISLE, was born at Greenland, Arkansas, May 30, 1873 and departed this life on August 8, 1947, at his home near Westville, after a lingering illness, at the age of 74 years, 2 months and nine days.
He was married to Inez PARKS and to this union were born six children, three boys and three girls, all of whom survive him. They are Mrs. J.F. SUMMEY, Westville; Shelley and Parks CARLISLE, Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Ralph MAYS, Roswell, New Mexico; Crokel and Joe CARLISLE of the home; one grandson, Waymon MAYS, two sisters, Mrs. John GIBBS, Fayetteville, Arkansas; and Mrs. Gene PARSON of Carthage, Mo.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, August 11, at Baptist Ford Church near Greenland, Arkansas, with Rev. C.E. HARDY officiating. Burial was in Baptist Ford Cemetery, under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.

WALKER
Sarah Rose WALKER, was born October 5th, 1865 and died August 15, 1947.
She was married to Wiley W. WALKER and to this union were born four children, two of whom preceded her in death.
She leaves to mourn her passing, two sons, G.B. ROSE of Claremore and T.N. ROSE of Seminole; also many friends and other relatives.
Funeral services were conducted at Wrights Chapel, Tuesday evening at 2:00 o'clock, by Rev. Lee MCELHANEY of Aurora, Arkansas.
Burial was in the Westville Cemetery, under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.

ALBERTY
Maggie Malinda BOLES, daughter of Henry and Nancy BOLES, was born at Cincinnati, Arkansas, August 27, 1884 and passed away at her home in Westville, Oklahoma, August 21, 1947 at the age of 62 years, 11 months and 21 days.
She resided at Cincinnati, until she was united in marriage to Spencer Lee ALBERTY, October 8, 1905. They have spent their entire married life in and near Westville.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her devoted husband of Westville, and three sons, Owen R. ALBERTY of Olathe, Kansas, Clarence H. ALBERTY of Kansas City, Kansas, and Meryl D. ALBERTY of Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren, Nelson, Roger and Clark ALBERTY of Olathe, Kansas; one brother, R.E. BOLES of Wichita, Kansas; two sisters, Mrs. Lucy SMITH of Westville and Mrs. John REED of Gridley, Kansas; also a number of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. ALBERTY professed faith in Christ at an early age, and lived her life in this realm, to the fullest. Her many acquaintances may well tell the high esteem that was held for her.
Funeral services were conducted, August 24th, 1947 at the Roberts Funeral Chapel at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Harvey HUMAN and Rev. L.E. SHANKEL. Interment was in the Union Cemetery at Cincinnati, Arkansas.
WAGES
Odean Lawrence WAGES, 18 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lum WAGES of Chewey, was fatally shot, Tuesday night, August 26, at 10:00 p.m.
The boy's uncle, Claude WAGES, was reported to have done the shooting.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday at New Hope. Burial was in the New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.


September 5, 1947
GUINN
James Harold GUINN, was born December 2, 1945 at Lincoln, Arkansas, and departed this life September 1, 1947.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at the Peavine Cemetery with Rev. HALL of Stilwell officiating.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fleet GUINN and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. GUINN and Mr. and Mrs. Ervin HENSLEY.
SMART
Funeral services for J.M. "Dad" SMART, age 88 years, six months and 29 days were conducted Monday at the Pentecostal Holiness Church by Rev. David THURMOND, pastor.
Death came to Mr. SMART at 3:35 a.m. August 29, at his home in Westville.
Burial was in the Westville Cemetery, under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
He is survived by his son, Horace "Jack" SMART of Muskogee and other relatives, also a host of friends.

DAVIS
Funeral service for Mrs. Jane DAVIS, wife of the late Ben DAVIS, and a resident of Westville for 15 years, who died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Alfred A. HART of near Stilwell, Sunday afternoon, was conducted from the Roberts Funeral Chapel Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock, with the Rev. L.E. SHANKEL, Methodist minister, officiating. Burial was in the Westville Cemetery.
Pall bearers included: W.C. BOST, Harold PRITCHETT, R.M. FINKE, Dewey ELKINS, John MCCUISTION and E.A. LANCASTER.
A choir composed of Mrs. Ed FUSSELMAN, Mrs. M.R. TITTLE, Sr., Mrs. Ann PARKER, Frank ALLEN and E.A. LANCASTER, sang three requested hymns, with Billy Paul HAYS at the piano.
Mrs. DAVIS was born November 3, 1863.
She was the mother of seven children, all living but one.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. HART, of Stilwell; Miss Mittie DAVIS of the home; four sons, Ernest of Sedan, Kansas, Ralph of Lincoln, Ark., William of Klammath Falls, Ore., and Clint of Summers, Ark.; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She was a member of the Methodist church.
ASHER
Earl L. ASHER, age 39, Westville resident, was killed instantly, Tuesday morning at 6:40 am when according to reports of the train crew, he stepped in front of a north bound reight as it was coming up grade about a mile south of Westville.
Reports are that Mr. ASHER was carrying his hammer and rule as if enroute to work, when the tragedy occured.
The body was brought into Westville on the train after the inquest was made at the place of the tragedy, and was taken in charge by the Roberts Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted, Thursday, September 11th, at the Roberts Funeral Chapel, by Rev. James H. SMITH. Burial was in the Westville Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Oshie Mae ASHER, his mother, Mrs. Jennie POOR and two brothers, Clifford of Springdale, Arkansas, and Edgar of Modesto, California; also many other relatives and friends.
WILLIAMS
Lee WILLIAMS was born near Webb City, Mo., March 12, 1906 and departed this life September 4, 1947 at the age of 41 years, five months and 23 days.
He moved to Oklahoma in 1908 with his parents. He resided here until his death.
His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.
Survivors left to mourn his death are three brothers, Tom WILLIAMS of Broken Bow, Jim WILLIAMS of Stilwell and Charley WILLIAMS of Watts, Oklahoma; one uncle Will WEST of Westville, Route 2, and a number of other relatives and friends.


Friday, October 17, 1947
CASE
Sarah Malinda SEAY was born April 21, 1866 and departed this life October 11, 1947 at the age of 81 years, five months and 18 days.
She was married to James M. CASE, March 15, 1883, who preceded her in death, February 10, 1935. To this union were born six children, three of whom preceded her in death.
Those surviving are Mable WHELCHEL of Westville, Mrs. Cora WALKER of Orange, California, and C.C. CASE of Hemet, California. Other survivors include 7 grandchildren and one brother.
Mrs. CASE was converted with the Methodist Church at the age of 15.
Funeral services were conducted at the Roberts Funeral Chapel, Sunday, by Rev. James H. SMITH. Burial was in the Alberty Chapel Cemetery.

WILLIAMS
Mrs. Susie L. WILLIAMS was born November 12, 1875 and died October 21, 1947 at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 22 days.
Survivors are her husband, A.C WILLIAMS; three daughters, Mrs. Cora BROWN, Cushing, Oklahoma; Golda WILLIAMS of the home and Mrs. Ina REDPATH of McAlester; three sons, Loyda and Lee of Westville and Clarence of Oakland, California; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held October 24th at Roberts Funeral Home by N.A. RAINWATER. Burial was in Baptist Mission Cemetery


Friday, November 14, 1947
SCARBOROUGH
Funeral services for J.L. SCARBOROUGH, age 76 were conducted Monday, November 10 at the Roberts Funeral Home, by Rev. James H. SMITH, pastor of the local Baptist church.
Death came to Mr. SCARBOROUGH, Saturday, November 8 at his home in Watts, where he moved a few weeks ago after having lived in Westville for several years.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Matilda SCARBOROUGH of the home; four daughters, Edna FOSTER of Oklahoma City, Cordelia FOSTER of Shawnee, Mrs. Edith GUILLIAM of Yukon and Bonnie PORTER of Sapulpa; three sons, Joel of Bloomington, Calif., Karl of Fort Worth, Texas, and Glen of Rochester, New York. A host of friends also mourn his passing.
REYNOLDS
Word has been received of the death of Mrs. Lula REYNOLDS, Monday in Los Angeles, California, burial to be in Los Angeles.
She is survived by her husband and seven children; two sisters, Mrs. D.W. BUSHYHEAD, Mrs. Mollie DUDLEY and a brother, W.J. FOREMAN, a number of nieces and nephews of Westville.
Mrs. REYNOLDS was well known here, having been reared in this community. The family moved to California eighteen years ago.

WARD
An automobile accident which happened at Colorado Springs, Colo., November 14, 1947, took the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Earl A. WARD, whose home was at Hugoton, Kansas.
Mrs. WARD, age 25 is the daughter of Mrs. Minnie PICKARD of Proctor, and will be remembered here as Irene SMITH.
Double funeral services were conducted at Proctor, by Rev. J.H. SMITH, and burial was in the Proctor Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.


Friday, November 28, 1947
FREEMAN
Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Ramona FREEMAN, Thursday, November 20, at the Roberts Funeral Chapel by Rev. James H. SMITH. Burial was in the Westville Cemetery.
Mrs. FREEMAN passed away at the home of Mrs. J.D. WELCH, Tuesday, November 18 at the age of 78.
Her husband, R.G. FREEMAN preceded her in death nine years ago at Watts, Oklahoma. She is survived by one sister in Indiana.


Friday, December 12, 1947
MOORE
James Clinton MOORE, was born March 17, 1890 at Dutch Mills, Arkansas, and departed this life on December 9, 1947 at the age of 57 years, eight months and 22 days.
He was united in marriage to Barbara STOUT, July 5, 1919.
Survivors include two brothers, George MOORE of Stilwell and Will GROOMS of Westville and one sister, Mrs. W.F. BROWN of Southgate, California.
Funeral services were conducted at the Roberts Funeral Home, Thursday afternoon by Rev. James H. SMITH, Pastor of the Westville Baptist Church. Burial was in the City Cemetery.
HICKS
Glenda HICKS, little daughter of Charley HICKS died Friday, December 5th, after a brief illness.
Funeral services were conducted December 6, by Rev. David THURMOND, pastor of the Pentecostal Holiness church. Burial was in the Alberty Chapel Cemetery.
CHANCE
Funeral services were conducted, Wednesday, December 3, at New Hope by Bro. Carl HART, for Mrs. James CHANCE who passed away December 2. Burial was in the New Hope Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband and several children.


Friday, December 19, 1947
BARTON
Funeral services for Mrs. Hattie BARTON, wife of George BARTON well known pioneer of this community, and a resident of Westville for many years, who died in a Prairie Grove hospital last Wednesday night, was conducted from the Baptist church at 2:00 p.m. Friday with Rev. Newell RAINWATER, pastor of the Warner Methodist church, officiating.
Burial was in Cincinnati, Arkansas, with Roberts Funeral Home directing. A quartet composed of Mrs. ISHMAEL, Mrs. Paul CARRINGTON, Fred ALLISON and Rev. James SMITH sang two requested hymns.
Mrs. BARTON has been in ill health for several years. She was a member of the Presbyterian church and before her illness, was very active. She was also a member of the Arkoma Club.
Survivors include her husband and several nieces and nephews.
PHIPPS
Herman PHIPPS, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben PHIPPS of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, was killed, December 6 at Chester, California, when a building under construction, collapsed. Herman, who is well known here, resided in Westwood, California and had been employed by the Chester firm for some time.
He is survived by his wife and four children, one son and three daughters.
Funeral services were held at Westwood, California, and the body was laid to rest in the Red Bluff Cemetery at Red Bluff, Calif.
Relatives attending the funeral were, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben PHIPPS, Mr. and Mrs. Walter RUSK, Mr. and Mrs. Ross PHIPPS of Siloam Springs, Mr. and Mrs. Roy MORRIS, and John PHIPPS of Westville, Mr. and Mrs. Ted COLBERT and family of Westwood, Calif., Vester PHIPPS of Sunnyvale, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert PHIPPS of Westwood, also a host of friends.
Mr. and Mrs. PHIPPS' youngest son, Raymond, was killed at Westwood, California, five years ago.
DIBBLE
Word was received here this week of the death of John DIBBLE who was making his home in the state of Washington. Mr. and Mrs. DIBBLE made their home in Westville for several years.
HOWARD
Ella Belle HOWARD, the daughter of John and Jennie CLYNE was born April 26, 1870, and passed away December 15th, 1947 at the age of 77 years, six months and 19 days.
She professed Christian faith at the early age of 13 and united with the Methodist church. From then on she continued to live in true fellowship with God. The Bible was her ever present guide and inspiration.
On the 9th day of May 1901 she was united in marriage to Frank S. HOWARD who preceded her in death in 1935. To this union there were born four children, Mrs. Sallie E. ROSS, Mrs. Ella Mae CARROLL, Grover HOWARD and Eddie S. HOWARD, all of whom remained closely at her side through life.
She is also survived by two stepdaughters, Mrs. Katheryne GRASS of Detroit, Michigan, and Mrs. Dewey RICKENBRODE of Freemont, Texas, six grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Her early training and education was received in the schools of what is now Adair County. For a considerable time she attended the old Female Seminary at Tahlequah and later taught school in the Cherokee Nation. Mrs. HOWARD served as Postmistress at Baron, Oklahoma, from 1915 until 1940, at which time she was retired. The untiring loyalty and devotion to her husband, family, church and friends were outstanding characteristics of Mrs. HOWARD.
WALKER
Ed WALKER passed away Sunday, December 14.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Elsia, and six children, Lloyd, Ola, Ona, Carl, Maxine DOYLE, and a baby girl; three brothers, Tom and Van WALKER of Watts and Sherman WALKER of Oregon; two sisters, Hattie VAN BEBER of Proctor and his sister Addie of Kansas City who was with him during the last week of his illness.
