January 12, 1945
COLLINS
Laura O. COLLINS of Westville died in her home Wednesday, January 3.
She was born in Kentucky in 1874.
She was buried at the Westville Cemetery, January 6. Rev. C.E. NEUKIRHANER conducted the service.
Funeral arrangements were by the Roberts Funeral Home.
Mrs. COLLINS is survived by her husband, H.S. COLLINS, Cecil COLLINS and step-children. She was a resident of southwest of town for twenty years.
COLVIN
Floyd COLVIN, formerly of Westville died at his home in Phoenix, Arizona.
He died after a long illness.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Alta COLVIN and one daughter, Wanda Bell of the home. STEPHENS
Watts News Funeral service for Mrs. Mary Ann STEPHENS, pioneer resident of Watts, who died January, 2nd, was held at the Baptist Church here Thursday afternoon, burial in the Watts Cemetery.
She leaves a husband and five children and several grandchildren.

January 19, 1945
MEYER
Alice Margaret DIMERLY MEYER, (i.e.)[probably SIMERLY], born at Fillmon, Mo., October 22, 1901, united in marriage to Mr. John MEYER, October 3, 1923 at Hot Springs, Ark.
To this union were born three sons and one daughter, John Jr., now at Guadecanal with U.S. Marines, Alice Mary, Doyle Eugene and Carl Layfette.
Others left to mourn with the father and children are Mrs. Frank SIMERLY, Marysville, Mo., Mrs. Elva WILLIAMSON, sister of Barnard, Mo., Mrs. Mark DEBARD sister, Oregan, Mo., Irene SIMERLY sister, Kansas City, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Roache SIMERLY, nephew, Tulsa, two brothers and one sister in Calif. and Mo. and Mr. and Mrs. Mike MEYER, Fairview, Okla.
The Meyers family moved from Tahlequah to Westville on Mrs. MEYER's birth, October 22, '43. Mrs. MEYER was an active member of the Methodist Church at Fillmore, Mo., a teacher of a large class of young people. For the past year Mrs. MEYER had been in poor health, and the worry and lonliness for her soldier boy, John Jr., whom she loved most dearly - just seemed too much for her sick, weak body, and Saturday 1:45 p.m. she passed away in the Mock Hospital, at Prairie Grove. John Jr's last words as he fondly kissed his mother good bye were, "Don't worry about me mother, I'll be alright and I'll be back soon." Little did he realize that it was the last time he would see his dear little mother on this earth.
Services were held at the Roberts Funeral Home, Tuesday evening, Rev. Jess HOPKINS conducted the services, the High School Students were the singers.


January 26, 1945
CORNISH
Obed Bridley CORNISH, born Utica, Wisconsin, April 1, 1846 and died at Westville, Oklahoma.
Mr. CORNISH had been a resident of Westville the past year, and was in poor health most of the year.
Services were held at the Methodist Church with Rev. Jess HOPKINS, minister in charge of services, Tuesday afternoon. The ladies quartet were the singers.
Interment was at the Westville Cemetery, with the Wasson Funeral Home in charge. One son, Mr. M.C. CORNISH, of Houston, Texas, only member of family present.
BECKMAN - MOORE - KIRK
Three North Camp Hood soldiers were killed in a collision involving their automobile and a loaded gasoline transport truck, one mile south of Hillsboro on high 81, about 2:am o'clock Sunday morning.
Victims of the accident were: Staff Sergeant E.J. BECKMAN, Lawton, Oklahoma, Cpl. Delmas Eugene MOORE, 430 Northeast F. Street, Linton, Indiana, and T. 5 James F. KIRK, 1307 N. 15th St., Lawton, Oklahoma, apparently the driver of the car, was pinned in the automotbile. His head, chest, and legs were crushed.
The funeral [James KIRK] was conducted at the Pentecostal Holiness Church by Rev. Arthur SMITH and arrangement was by Roberts Funeral Home, interment at Westville Cemetery.

Mrs. Carrie JORDAN, Mrs. Minnie BAY, Mrs. Ruth BAY, and Mr. and Preston KIRK who've been visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milard KIRK and attended their brothers' funeral, Cpl. James KIRK, returned to their homes in California.


February 23, 1945
AKIN
"A Typical Christian Pioneer Mother."
This was Rev. HOPKINS theme for his sermon. Jennie FOREMAN AKIN, Westville, Oklahoma, born February 25, 1866 at Westville, Indian Territory, daughter of Ellis and Margaret FOREMAN, passed away February 14 at her home in Westville.
On December 22, 1881 Jennie FOREMAN and Andrew T. AKIN were united in marriage at Westville, I.T., and to this union were born ten children, of whom the following survive: Mrs. Fred WILLIAMS, Fairland, Oklahoma; Mrs. Walter FICKLE, Oklahoma City; William O. AKIN, Oakland; Mrs. Mode HAMBLIN and Mrs. Maggie Belle WHITE of the home.
Also surviving are four sisters and one brother, Mrs. Molly DUDLEY, Mrs. Dennis BUSHYHEAD, and W.J. FOREMAN of Westville; Mrs. Fannie DAWSON, Nowata, Okla.; Mrs. Lulu REYNOLDS, Los Angeles, California.
Andrew T. AKIN, her husband preceded her in death on December 31, 1912. During his life he served as the Police Sergeant of the U.S. Indian Police Service, Union Agency, Muskogee, I.T., from 1896 to 1901; Sheriff of Goingsnake District, Cherokee Nation, in 1884, and also serving as a member of the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council for many years.
Mrs. Jennie AKIN, in early life, taught school during Indian Territorial days, and was later to be elected to the office of Mayor in the State of Oklahoma. She also served as Chairman of the state Democratic Convention. She was an active member of, the Methodist Church of Westville, from early girlhood, donating a beautiful stained-glass window, in memory of her deceased husband, at the time the new Church was erected some years ago.
Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Church under direction of the Roberts Funeral Home, and interment was made in the Foreman Cemetery, Westville, Okla. Rev. WINNINGER, a former pastor of Mrs. AKIN, read the obituary, gave the prayer and made a few remarks.
The singers were Mrs. Raymond RENO, Mrs. Fred ALLISON, Mrs. M.R. TITTLE and Mrs. Anna PARKER, Billy Paul HAYS, pianist.
CROCKER
Funeral services were held January 30, at 2 p.m. for Betty Lu CROCKER, age 15, who died Sunday at her home 25626 Marigold Ave., Normont Terrace, Wilmington, Calif. She had for the past two years been ill with rheumatic fever.
Rev. Warren GLOVER officiated at the funeral held at Cartwright Mortuary, 702 Broad Avenue, Interment was in Roosevelt Cemetery.
Miss CROCKER was born November 29, 1929. She attended Gulf Ave. School and enrolled in Harbonne High School before becoming ill.
She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H. CROCKER, two sisters, Mrs. Avalon SPANGLER and Mrs. Phyllis FIESEL, and two brothers, Leo R. CROCKER and Johnnie CROCKER. Also her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.B. REYNOLDS of Los Angeles, formerly of Wetville and Mrs. Luella CROCKER of Stilwell, Okla.
HEUSTIS
D.[Dave] B. HEUSTIS son of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. HEUSTIS was born in Washington County, Arkansas, October 13, 1873 and departed this life February 18, 1945, in a Prairie Grove Hospital.
He was married to Alberta DIMENT, April 7, 1895. To this union were born six children, 3 daughters, and 3 sons.
Surviving him is his wife, two sons, Charles HEUSTIS of Deary, Idaho, and Clem HEUSTIS of Stilwell, Oklahoma; two daughters, Viola ROBERTS and Iva WADLEY of Westville, two brothers, Eddie HEUSTIS of Wichita, Kansas, and Willie HEUSTIS of Westville; twenty grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and relatives and friends.
He was converted and joined the Missionary Baptist Church at Rhea, Arkansas, September 1906. He was ready and anxious to be at rest with the Lord; and during his illness, his request was, "Don't weep for me but shout for joy."
The body was laid to rest in the Baptist Mission Cemetery, Reverend C.E. HARDY, officiating with Roberts Funeral Home in charge


March 9, 1945
ELDRIDGE
Ben G. ELDRIDGE was born near Livingston, in Overton County, Tenn., September 14, 1871 and departed this life in Vinita, Okla., February 26, 1945.
Mr. ELDRIDGE was reared in Tenn. When a young man he went to Okla., where he worked for more than twenty years on various large cattle ranches. Later he went West. He farmed in New Mexico and Calif., and at one time was on the police force in San Francisco.
In 1922 he bought a farm near Westville, Oklahoma, where he resided until a short time before his death. He was an industrious farmer and will be remembered for his neighborliness and loyalty to his friends.
He is survived by nieces and nephews in Tenn. and Ark.
The funeral was held at the Roberts Funeral Chapel at Westville with Rev. Jess HOPKINS conducting the services. The singers were Mrs. M.R. TITTLE, Mrs. Anna PARKER and Mrs. HOPKINS.

March 16, 1945
PACE
Margaret C. PACE, born June 4, 1872, died March 5, 1945 after a long period of illness.
She was the mother of 7 children, surviving 3 daughters and 3 sons, John, Jake and Jennie CASPER of the home, also Nan JACKSON of Grove, Okla., Frankie CANNON of Watts, Okla., Edmond PACE of Watts and one sister Mrs. E.A. JONES of Miami, Oklahoma.
Burial was under the direction of Pyeatts Funeral Home of Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Burial was made at the Baptist Mission Cemetery, with Rev. Carl HART, officiating.
PULLIAM
Andrew Homer PULLIAM was born in Calloway County, Missouri, across the river from Jefferson City, on November 3, 1856, and departed this life at Watts, Okla., March 7, 1945. He died while on the way to the hospital at Siloam Springs, Ark., death being due to a long standing illness.
He was married on March 4, 1897 to Miss Anna Bell Campbell at Slater, Mo. To this union were born two sons, Colin L. and Loren R. PULLIAM. Mr. PULLIAM spent his life working for the K.C.S. railroad most of which was spend as an engineer.
Those remaining to mourn his passing are his widow, Mrs. A.H. PULLIAM, of Watts; two sons and their families, Mrs. and Mrs. Colin L. PULLIAM, of Westville, and Mr. Loren R. PULLIAM, of Watts and a foster daughter, Mautie HOFMEISTER who teaches in Seminole public schools.
Funeral services were held at Watts Methodist church Saturday, March 10 at 3:00 p.m. with the pastor, Rev. R.M. MOSER in charge, assisted by Rev. F.M.TOLLESON of Fort Smith, Ark., a lifelong friend of the family and a former pastor. Burial was in a Siloam Springs, Ark., cemetery. The pallbearers were Clyde BOST, John EDSELL, John DODGEN, Jack THURMAN, Bob HOUSTON and Connell DANIEL.
The floral offerings were many and beautiful, be speaking the esteem in which Mr. PULLIAM was held in this community.
CRAIG
Frank CRAIG, retired rancher, died at his home in Marysville, California, March 2, 1945.
He was the father of Staff Sgt. Fay HOYT, U.S.M.C. Reserves, brother of Albert CRAIG, Westwood, Calif., and survived by eight sisters, and uncle of Ira and Kate ANGLIN of LaHabra.
Mr. CRAIG was 67 years old and a native of Arkansas.
He has many friends in and around Westville. Funeral service was held Monday, March 5th. Interment was at East Lawn Cemetery, LaHabra, Calif.


April 6, 1945
VEAZEY
Funeral service was held Sunday at Proctor church house for little Betty Lou VEAZEY, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. VEAZEY of the Proctor community
DANIELS
Funeral services for A.C. DANIELS, Kansas City Southern Railway Engineer, were held Monday afternoon, 2:30, at Bell Schoolhouse with Rev. C.E. HARDY conducting the services.
Many friends from Westville and Watts were present.
Interment was at Bell Cemetery.


April 13, 1945
MULLER
Lorinda Angeline MULLER was born June 1, 1854, at Iron Mountain, Mo., and departed this life April 2, 1945. Had she lived until June 1 she would have been 91 years of age.
She was a daughter of Thomas and Mary FURNISH and was the mother of five children.
She leaves to mourn her passing three daughters: Cora M. HAMPTON and husband of Watts, Mrs. Dora D. SATTERWHITE and husband at Lincoln, Nebr., and Nellie B. DAVIS of Kansas City, Mo.; one son, J.W. Bemis of Vinita, Okla.; 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, and a host of friends.
She united with the Methodist church early in life at Dawson, Nebr., and later changed her membership to the Christian church of which she is still a member.
She lived the last years of her life in Watts and the last few weeks during her last illness were spent with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred HAMPTON, where all that loving hands could do was done to ease her suffering.
Funeral services were conducted in the Watts Methodist Church April 5 at 3 p.m. with the pastor, Rev. R.M. MOSER, officiating. The body was laid to rest in the Bell Cemetery.


April 20, 1945
INGRUM
Mrs. Clara INGRUM well known resident of Smelterville, Idaho, died Sunday morning April 8, 1945, from a heart attack, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Neal Rickman.
Funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at the Thornhill-McGlade Chapel with Rev. Stanley TREFERN officiating.
The Pall Bearers were: Frank LINEHART, Harry YATTES, Harley WEIMER, Bob SHAFER, B. RICKMAN, Vermile BRAZIL and Guv KELLOGG.
Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. INGRUM was 80 years of age.
Left to mourn were: two daughters: Mrs. RICKMAN, Cynthia INGRUM PIERCE, and one brother, Simmie WORKMAN of West Virginia, 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
JOHNSON
Mrs. Rebecca Catherine JOHNSON born May 22, 1866, united in Holy Matrimony with (?) R. JOHNSON, July 22, 1888, passed away April 12, 1945 leaving three sons, Calvin, Henry, and Layfette JOHNSON, and three daughters, Margaret WILLIS, Emma HICKMAN, and Viola GLENN, also four step-children William, Harve, Jack JOHNSON, and Oma COTY, 29 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn their loss.


April 27, 1945
PHILLIPS
Harvey PHILLIPS, age 48 died Monday 23rd, and was laid to rest April 24th at New Hope Cemetery. Mr. PHILLIPS was not married but leaves two brothers and one sister and many friends and relatives to mourn his death. The brothers are Barney PHILLIPS and Jess PHILLIPS of Westville and the sister is Mrs. Jess OWEN, also of Westville
CRAWFORD
Funeral services for Mrs. Frank CRAWFORD of Broken Arrow, Okla., was held Tuesday, April 17, at Memorial Park near Tulsa. Mrs. CRAWFORD leaves 3 sons and one daughter, 3 sisters and 7 brothers, including W.L. POYNER of Westville.
BILBY
Mrs. A.A. BILBY passed quietly away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.P. REID Friday, March 30 at seven o'clock. She had been bedfast for the past 15 months, suffering a stroke of paralysis the week before her death. Alice Adaline POOL was born at Drakestown, N.J., July 1, 1863 and would have been 82 this coming July. She resided in Drakestown until her marriage to the late Charles Milton BILBY, February 2, 1882, at which place she continued to live until 1893, moving to Missouri, where she made her home until 1901 when she moved to Oklahoma, living there until the death of her husband. Mrs. BILBY came to Texas 4 years ago to live with her daughter, Mrs. REID, with whom she resided at 829 Broadway. Mrs. BILBY was the mother of six children, five of whom are living. They are Mrs. Esther B. REID, Plainview, Mr. George L. BILBY also of Plainview, Mrs. Ruth HULSE of Woodland, Calif., Mrs. Ethel TAYLOR, Duncan, Okla, Mr. Russel BILBY, Kansas City, Mo. Seventeen grandchildren also are among the list of survivors.
Funeral services were conducted March 31, at the First Methodist Church, Rev. Edgar NEAL officiating. Burial was in the Plainview cemetery. Mrs. BILBY resided in Westville from 1915 to 1941.


May 4, 1945
BRYANT
Matilda D. BRYANT was born on February 1, 1887 near Cincinnati, Arkansas. Was married to Cullen G. BRYANT, January 20, 1907, who proceeded her in death on June 25, 1938. She leaves two children, Wm. BRYANT of Watts and Marie DANIELS of Heavener, 3 grandchildren, 3 sisters and one brother.
She was converted and joined the Baptist Church to which she was a faithful member until her death on April 24th.
Rev. C.E. HARDY conducted the funeral service, burial was made in Westville Cemetery.


May 18, 1945
WEAVER
Charles H. WEAVER, age 75 died at the home of granddaughter, Mrs. Claude MAUPINS, May 13 at Kansas City, Mo. Funeral services were held at the Holiness Church Tuesday, May 15, with Rev. J.H. BUNNELL officiating.
Burial was in the Westville Cemetery, Roberts Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. WEAVER has been a resident of Westville nearly 30 years and leaves a host of friends and relatives to mourn his death.


May 25, 1945
LEWIS
Mr. M.R. LEWIS, manager of Griffin Canning Co., Westville, and family were called to Underwood, Indiana because of the death of Mr. LEWIS' father. The elderr Mr. LEWIS passed away Sunday night, May 20, after a brief illness.


June 1, 1945
SWAKE
The Watts community was shocked last Thursday morning to hear of the death at 10 o'clock that morning, May 24, 1945 at John Brown University hospital in Siloam Springs, Ark., of Harold Lloyd SWAKE, better known to his parents and friends as "Buddy", son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawyer SWAKE. He had been taken to the hospital the preceeding Saturday when what was thought to be a bad cold turned into pneumonia and everything was done that could be but to no avail. He was a patient sufferer and did not complain even to the very last.
Buddy was born March 3, 1930 therefore his age at the time of his death was 15 years, two months and 22 days. He was born in Watts and lived his entire life at this place.
Buddy was loved by all who knew him. He was always a loving, obedient son and brother.
He leaves to mourn his passing his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawyer SWAKE of this city, a sister, Joyce Faye SWAKE of Tulsa, Okla., another sister, Mrs. Kenneth FIELDS, of Verona, Missouri, and one brother, Sgt. Robert Dewayne SWAKE, formerly of Gentry, Arkansas, now with the Armed Forces in the Southern Pacific. Sgt. SWAKE was reported missing in action over Tokyo on April 24, just one month preceding the death of Buddy. Besides the immediate family, a host of friends and relatives are also left in bereavement.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Watts Baptist Church with the Rev. R.M. MOSER, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating and burial was in Oak Hill cemetery at Siloam Springs.
The floral offerings were many and beautiful bespeaking the high esteem in which he and his family are held in this community and one of the largest crowds to attend a funeral in Watts was present to pay their last respects.
The bereaved parents and children have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in this untimely passing of their son and brother.


June 8, 1945
MACKIE
John MACKIE, age 75, died sudden ly at his home Monday morning June 4, Mr. MACKIE was the father of 4 children, 3 daughters and 1 son.
He has lived in Westville for 45 years.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete, waiting the arrival of his son, John, Jr. of Seattle, Washington.
Survivors are several nieces and nephews.


June 15, 1945
CAGLE
Mrs. Archie CAGLE passed away at her home at Baron, Oklahoma, Friday, June 8, 1945. Funeral service was held at Baron, June 10, with Rev. HALL conducting services. Burial was in the Downing Cemetery with the Roberts Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. CAGLE was the mother of ten children, three sons and seven daughters, Mrs. Golda PHILLIPS of Pennsylvania, Mrs. Georgia SIMMONS of Denver, Colorado, Clebert of the Navy, Sadie, Annabelle, Mildred, Lorene, Johnny, Austin, Wayne and Patsy CAGLE of the home. Besides the children, Mrs. CAGLE leaves her husband and many friends and relatives to mourn her passing.


June 29, 1945
WEST
Mrs. Freddie June WEST died in Los Angeles hospital, June 19, leaving a nine day old baby boy. Mrs. WEST was the wife of Woodrow WEST of the Coast Guard, and sister-in-law of Mrs. Eddie HOWARD of Westville.
Mrs. WEST has many friends in Westville to mourn her unexpected death. Woodrow WEST is the son of Mrs. J.B. WEST, formerly of Westville.


July 6, 1945
NELSON
Anna Jane NELSON, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B.K. NELSON was born October 7, 1883 in Texas and departed this life at 2:45 June 30, 1945 at the home of her son, Oscar WINKLER, of Morrowtown, Ark., at the age of 61 years 8 months and 23 days. At the age of 9 years she came with her parents to Evansville, where she grew to womanhood. In 1902 she was united in marriage to Robert Edd WINKLER of Evansville, Arkansas. Here they made their home until moving near Westville, Oklahoma, in the year 1930, where she lived until God called her to her eternal home.
To this union was born 10 children, 4 of whom have preceeded her in death. In 1926 she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and united with the Pentecostal Holiness Church living a devoted Christian life until her maker called her home.
She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, of Westville, Oklahoma, her sons, Oscar, Bert, John and Edd Jr., all of Morrowtown, Arkansas, and Fred of Bentonville, Arkansas, and a daughter, Mrs. Maggie GULLETT of Westville; also twelve grandchildren, two sisters, three brothers and a host of relatives and friends.
"Sleep, Mother, Sleep, your troubles are o'er, You are at rest on Heaven's bright shore. We all loved you, but God loved you more, For he called you to that happy shore. Sleep, Mother, Sleep, the wind and the rain Will pass over your grave again and again, You are at rest and free from all pain. Some day we'll meet you to ne'er part again."
Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. July 2, 1945, by Jim Ketcher at the McThursday Cemetery, near Morrowtown, where the remains were laid to rest. The Roberts Funeral Home of Stilwell, Okla., officiated.
TILFORD
Word has just been received that James TILFORD died suddenly May 31, 1945, at Hughson, Calif.
Mr. TILFORD was a resident of Westville, for several years.
He leaves two sons, Charles TILFORD of Hughson, California, and Pfc. Carl TILFORD, somewhere in the Pacific, and many friends to mourn his passing.
KNOX
Mrs. Mattie KNOX was called to Muskogee Wednesday, on account of the death of her aunt Sally ROBINSON, of Claremore, Oklahoma.
Miss ROBINSON died Tuesday at a Muskogee hospital following an operation.
GRIFFIN
Funeral service for Mrs. Sam GRIFFIN was held at Pyeattes Funeral Home at Siloam Springs, Monday. Burial in Bell Cemetery.
Mrs. GRIFFIN died Thursday at her home near Gentry. The Griffin family used to live at Watts.
Survivors include, her husband, three sons, Floyd, George and Lee, two daughters Mary DILDINE and Tina GUTHRIE and some grandchildren.
BUNNELL
Mrs. John BUNNELL was called to Miami, Oklahoma, on account of the sudden death of her cousin, Walter WILLIAMS.
BUTLER
[Addielee News]
We are sorry to report that Mrs. Ethel BUTLER received a telegram stating that her husband, Berlin BUTLER was killed on Okinawa. He has served over a year in the Service.

CRITTENDEN
Marie CRITTENDEN, age 18, daughter of Jim CRITTENDEN of Proctor, died Sunday afternoon, at the Sanatorium at Talihina, Oklahoma.
Funeral services were conducted at New Hope, Tuesday afternoon, July 10, and burial was in the New Hope Cemetery.


July 27, 1945
TONEY
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon 2:00 o'clock for J.H. TONEY, 85, veteran peace officer of Adair County.
Mr. TONEY died Sunday, July 22, at 5:35 p.m. He is survived by two sons, Ben TONEY of Chewey and V.H. TONEY of Westville.
Funeral services were held at Chewey under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home with Rev. Clark WILSON of Siloam Springs officiating.
GALBRAITH
Jack GALBRAITH, born January 18, 1903, at Colcord, Tennessee, died enroute to Dr. Graves at 9 o'clock on the 14 of July, 1945.
He was a resident of near Westville for 32 years.
He was buried at White Rock Cemetery. Rev. Ira FAHNESTOCK and Rev. COOK of Lincoln officiated at the burial.
Mr. GALBRAITH had been employed by the Arkansas State Highway Department for twenty-two years. He is survived by his wife, 2 brothers, Walter, of Summers, Arkansas, and Bill of Westville, and five sisters.


August 3, 1945
TONEY
J.H. TONEY was born January 13, 1860 near Mt. Vernon, Mo., and died July 22, 1945 at 5:35 p.m.
He professed in 1880 and joined the Presbyterian Church. He was married to J.E. WEBLE, February 20, 1881, Van Buren, Ark.
His wife preceded him in death January 8, 1944.
Two sons, V.H. TONEY of Westville and Ben TONEY of Chewey, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one sister, and three brothers and a host of freinds and relatives are left to mourn their loss.
He said the first day he was ill that he was prepared to go. Mr. TONEY was 85 years, 6 months and nine days old.


August 10, 1945
RYAN
John RYAN, who was born at Proctor, Okla., [Indian Territory] July 24, 1872, died at the Elizabeth Hospital at Prairie Grove, Ark. Saturday, August 4, after 3 weeks illness.
The funeral was held at Proctor, Oklahoma, Monday, August 6 with Rev. Jim KETCHER officiating. Burial was in the Proctor cemetery, with the Roberts Funeral Home in charge.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Linnie RYAN he is survived by several children, and many friends and relatives.
MOSER
Funeral service was held by Rev. R.M. MOSER, pastor of the Watts Methodist at Baptist Mission Church for W.D. TEREGO, Thursday afternoon. Mr. TEREGO died suddenly at his home, Monday evening.


August 24, 1945
DICKEY
DICKEY Dr. George William DICKEY was born near Hayesville, North Carolina, May 24, 1880 and died August 18, 1945 at the age of sixty-five.
His boyhood was spent in Ranger, North Carolina. He attended Junior College at Young Harris, Georgia and medical school in Chattanooga, Nashville, and Knoxville, Tennessee. He received his medical degree, May 23, 1904 from Tennessee Medical College at that time in Knoxville. The same year he came to Chance, Indian Territory where he began his medical practice. He moved to Westville in 1910. His work was carried on almost without interruption for forty one years.
Dr. DICKEY was married to Augusta JOHNSON, Chance, Okla. To this union four children were born: Mrs. Jack MILLER of Westville, Mrs. Lyle MARTIN, Oak Ridge, Tenn., John L DICKEY, Los Angeles, and Ahnawake DICKEY of Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Besides his wife and children Dr. DICKEY is survived by three grandchildren, Paul Keith MARTIN, Diane Kathleen DICKEY and Charlottte Diane MILLER; one sister, Mrs. T.S. EVANS Murphy, North Carolina, and one brother, C.M. DICKEY, Ranger, North Carolina.


August 31, 1945
BASSHAM
Sarah Louisa BASSHAM was born in 1859, at Melbourn, Arkansas, died Sunday, August 19, 1945 at Lincoln, Arkansas.
She was married to James M. BASSHAM, October 14, 1877 at Eventin, Arkansas.
She was converted at the age of 14 years, and was a member of the Christian church.
Mrs. BASSHAM is survived by six children; E.L. BASSHAM, Prairie Grove; C.P. BASSHAM, Pittsburg, Kansas; Mrs. Rose DENTYN, Los Angeles; Mrs. Lois ENGLISH, Lincoln, Arkansas; Mrs. Ono BIRCHFIELD, Bartlesville, Oklahoma; two sisters, one brother, sixteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.


September 7, 1945
HODGES
As we go to press we were saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Bessie R. LOGAN of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Mrs. LOGAN was the daughter of T.R. HODGES, pioneer merchant of Adair County.
She is survived by her husband, her daughter, three brothers, John James and Roy HODGES and two sisters, Elsie and Virginia.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced.


September 14, 1945
LANGLEY
John Jackson Langley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew LANGLEY was born at Rome, Georgia, October 21, 1889.
He moved with his parents to Oklahoma in the Westville community in 1890 and there spent most of his life.
He entered into the covenant with God and accepted Christ as his personal Saviour a few hours before he departed this life at his home, four miles north of Westville, September 6, 1945 at the age of 56 years, 10 months and 10 days.
He was united in marriage to Clara CAMPBELL and to their union was born four children. One daughter, Rosa, preceeded him in death.
He leaves to mourn his departure, two daughters, Silvia, and Trecia of California, and one son W.A., serving his country in the armed forces, two grandchildren, one brother, Robert, of Vinita, three sisters, Mary and Alice of Westville, and Rena of Fairland, Oklahoma, and a host of friends and relatives.
Rev. Jim KINDLE preached the funeral and his favorite sons, "Rock of Ages" and "Where We Will Never Grow Old," were sang. he was buried in Baptist Mission Cemetery, Roberts Funeral Home in charge of services.

FLETCHER
Mary FLETCHER, a resident of Adair County for 36 years, was claimed by death September 5, 1945, at the age of 65.
She was laid to rest in Baptist Mission Cemetery, Monday, September 10, with the Roberts Funeral Home in charge.
She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, and a host of friends.


September 21, 1945
SPICER
Carrie E. SPICER was born January 7, 1857 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and departed this life September 10, 1945 at the age of 88 years, 8 months and three days, at her home near Westville, in the Addilee community.
She spent the early part of her life in Franklin County, Iowa. At the age of 13 she moved with her parents to Cowley County, Kansas, where she, in 1884, was married to Schuler H. SPICER, who preceded her in death May 25, 1930.
They moved to Oklahoma in 1890 and she has spent most of the remainder of her life, in Okla. except five years in California, coming to her present home in 1924.
Nearly 50 years ago she joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church and was a faithful member to the last with a firm hope in having a part in the First Resurrection at the soon coming of her Savior.
During her long and painful illness of over 17 months she was always patient and cheerful. Everyone who met her spoke of her being so patient through all her suffering. She was loved and respected by all and was affectionately called Grandma.
She was a faithful wife and a loving mother and is survived by one daughter, Leota, of the home and L.B. SPICER of near Stilwell, and L.C. SPICER of Sulphur, Oklahoma, who has just returned from service with the Navy in the Pacific, 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren 2 grandsons and one granddaughter being in the service of their Country.
The funeral was held in the Roberts Funeral Home in Westville, September 12, 2:30 p.m. Burial was in Westville Cemetery.


October 5, 1945
PATTERSON
Mr. Oscar C. PATTERSON was born July 23, 1876 at Olan, North Carolina. His parents moved near Cane Hill, Arkansas, where Mr. PATTERSON was reared and educated. He moved to the Westville community in 1920 and spent the remainder of his life here.
His profession was farming and his farm, located three miles north of town was recognized as the most up-to date farm in this section of the state. He sold his farm a year ago and had retired, purchasing a home in Westville.
Death came at City Hospital at Fayetteville, Arkansas, 8:30 a.m. Monday.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Alpha PATTERSON, five brothers, and four sisters.
Funeral services were held at the Roberts Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. HALL of Stilwell, officiating.
He was laid to rest in the Dutch Mills Cemetery.

WRIGHT
Arthur Lester WRIGHT was born October 30, 1870, near Porkerville, Morris County, Kansas. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. H.H.WRIGHT.
He was married to Nellie DUMPROPE at Council Grand [Grove], Kansas. To this union were born the following children: Nina, who passed away at the age of 6, Lesta REEVES of Sylvia, Kansas, Estelle SNOW, Independence, Mo., Ruth Mitchell, Watts, Oklahoma, Harry of Sacramento, Calif., Bill of Russell, Kansas, and Dick of Visalia, California.
He departed from this life October 4, 1945 at his home at Watts, Oklahoma.


October 12, 1945
HOOPER
Funeral services were conducted for Emma HOOPER at New Hope Church, Tuesday, October 2, by Carl HOLT and W.F. MASTERS.
She died at the home of her sister, Mrs. R.R. MASTERS in the Chance community, September 30.
Besides Mrs. R.R. MASTERS, she leaves another sister, Mrs. Jay SIMPSON, of near Tahlequah, and three brothers, Tabe HOOPER, Cherokee City, Ark., Birl (i.e.) of Pueblo, Colorado and Harve, of near Watts and a host of other relatives and friends. She is also an aunt of Mrs. S.P. SELLERS and Mrs. Dorothy LARREMORE of Westville.


November 2, 1945
ROLLER
Mrs. Julia E. ROLLER died October 28, in the Westville Community.
She was a resident of this community for nineteen years.
Mrs. ROLLER was born March 24, 1859 at East St. Louis, Illinois.
Burial services were conducted by the Roberts Funeral Home, October 29, at the Bronston Cemetery in Arkansas.
BUTLER
Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. J.W. BUTLER, Monday October 29 at Siloam Springs by Rev. CLINE and Rev. HAMILTON.
She passed away at her home near Siloam Springs, Tuesday morning October 23.
Besides her husband, J.W. BUTLER she leaves eleven children, Frank of Washington, Clyde and Chester, of Chelais, Washington, Mrs. E.L. DAUGHTERY, Napauine, Washington, Nathan and Edward, Portland, Oregon, Mrs. L.E. BURNS, Ontario, California, Mrs. Dan SISK, Mrs. O.W. MOSS, Mrs. Joe SUMMERS, Westville, Okla., and Victor of the home, 21 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, one brother, H.O. KINSER, Hillsborough, Oregon and a host of friends.
ODLE
Allie ODLE, aged 52, died Wednesday morning, October 31 at 3 o'clock in Kansas City, Mo.
Mr. ODLE will be remembered as the brother of Dud ODLE, and a former resident of Watts.
He lived at Kansas City for thirteen years and worked for Proctor and Gamble Soap Company.
Funeral services will be held at Kansas City, Saturday, November 3, at 2:30 p.m. Survivors are his wife, four brothers and two sisters.


November 16, 1945
KELLEY
Mrs. Susan KELLEY was born March 9, 1860, and died November 9, 1945 at the age of 85 years and 8 months.
She was born in Adair County [Goingsnake District, Indian Territory] and married to John D. KELLEY who preceeded her in death in 1944. To this union were born seven children, three of which have passed on.
She leaves to mourn her passing two sons, Charley of Westville and Jewel of Chewey, two daughters, Tenzy HAZE of Wichita, Kansas, and Mary DAVIS of Carden, Okla., 32 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, three bothers, three sisters and a host of friends.
Burial services were held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Westville Cemetery. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. E.E. MCDONALD of Westville.
FICKLE
W.E. FICKLE of Oklahoma City died the first of the week after a long illness.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Novmber 13. Mr. FICKLE was an instructor in the Westville school system a number of years.
Local News - Mrs. Maggie Belle WHITE and Mrs. Mode HAMILTON left for Oklahoma City, Monday to attend the funeral of their brother-in-law, Mr. W.E. FICKLE.


November 23, 1945
WELCHEL
Mr. J.H. WELCHEL passed away at 4:25 Tuesday afternoon at his home after several weeks illness.
Funeral services were held at Roberts Funeral Home Friday afternoon at 2:30. Burial was in the Westville cemetery.
Mr. WHELCHEL is survived by his widow and eight children: Mrs. S.D. MCCALEB, Vinita, Mrs. J.A. VOGEL and Mrs. J.J. DRIESBACH of Muskogee, Mr. J.D. WHELCHEL of Tulsa, Bertha JORDAN now in Germany, Ruby WHELCHEL of Dallas, Texas, Earl WHELCHEL and Mrs. Farris CABE of Westville, ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.


December 14, 1945
FINLEY
Martha FINLEY was born July 7, 1875 at Proctor, Okla., and has been a resident of that community during her entier life.
She died at her home December 8. Funeral services were held Wednesay, December 12, at Proctor with Rev. J.T. COFFEE conducting.
Burial was in the Proctor Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home. She is survived by her husband Tom FINLEY of Proctor.


December 21, 1945
STOKES
Marth Jane STOKES died Tuesday at midnight at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hugh SQUIRES in Susanville.
A native of Rogers, Ark., Mrs. STOKES was 71 years old. She had been a resident of Westwood for eight years previous to last June when she moved to Susanville.
Mrs. STOKES was a member of the Baptist Church since she was 17 years of age, and is a past worthy matron of O.E.S. of which she has been a member for 27 years.
Survivors are: two daughters, Mrs. Hugh SQUIRES and Mrs. Eugene G. BROWN of Susanville, one son, William C. OLDHAM of Susanville; a brother, S.T. MAXWELL of Westville, Oklahoma, and two nieces, Mrs. Claud EVANS and Mrs. Theodore SHELTON of Del Paso Heights, Calif.
Funeral services were conducted Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Baptist Church with Rev. G.J.E. KEETCH officiating. Interment will be in the Susanville Cemetery.
The grave service will be conducted by Rev. Robert STONE of Westwood and the Westwood O.E.S. under the direction of the White Mortuary of Susanville. Mrs. STOKES lived in Westville a number of years.
ANDERSON
Funeral services were held Monday at Baptist Mission for Mrs. Selna ANDERSON, who died at her home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, last Friday.
Rev. J.T. COFFEE, pastor of the Westville Baptist Church conducted the funeral service.
Burial was in the Baptist Mission Cemetery, under the direction of Tulsa Funeral Home.
She is survived by two children and two grandchildren


December 28, 1945
LANGLEY
Funeral services for Mrs. W.F. LANGLEY were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Roberts Funeral Chapel. Rev. J.T. COFFEE and Rev. C.E. HARDY conducted the services.
The many friends present beautifully showed the high esteem in which the family is held in this community.
Burial was in the Westville Cemetery.
Survivors are the husband, W.F. LANGLEY, children Fred LANGLEY, of Ada, Okla., Drew LANGLEY of Okla City, W.H. LANGLEY of Stilwell, Buck LANGLEY of Los Angeles, Mrs. J.W. GATEWOOD, Pryor, Oklahoma, Mrs. V.O. WHITAKER, of Tulsa, and Wood LANGLEY, a sister, Mrs. Ollie HESTAND of Westville. Friends and relatives from Ada, Oklahoma City, Pryor, Tahlequah, Claremore, Hulbert, Tulsa, Stilwell, Watts, Siloam Springs, Ark., and Fayetteville, Ark., attended the funeral.
BARNETT
Burton BARNETT was killed instantly, Saturday night when the car which he was driving ran off the Ballard Creek bridge.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
