HAMMER

Mrs. Peggie HAMMER, age 72 years, a full blood Cherokee lady, died at her home near the viaduct west of town, Sunday, January 2, after a short illness.
Mrs. HAMMER was born in the state of Georgia, May 17, 1871. She has resided in this community most of her life.
Funeral service, conducted by a Cherokee minister from Tahlequah, was held from the Green school house Wednesday, with burial in the Whitmire family cemetery.
She is survived by one son and two daughters.

TYREE

W.N. TYREE, age 70, father of Mrs. Robert HOLLAND of Westville died at his home in Lincoln Sunday evening after an illness of several weeks.
Funeral service was held Monday at the funeral home in Lincoln with burial in the Beaty Cemetery.
Besides his daughter here, he is survived by four other daughters and five sons.

TONEY

Funeral service, conducted by Rev. Clark WILSON was held Sunday at Chewey for Mrs. J.H. TONEY, age 85 years. Mrs. TONEY died at her home there Saturday, January 8.
She is survived by her husband, J.H TONEY; two sons, Ben TONEY and Hugh TONEY, and several grandchildren.
Burial was made in the Westville cemetery, under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.

OWENS

Mrs. Polly J. OWENS, age 79 years, died at her home northwest of town Wednesday morning following a stroke of paralysis which she suffered Friday, January 7.
Funeral services are incomplete, awaiting word from her children, most of whom live out of the state.
She is survived by four sons, Jesse of the home, Andrew OWENS of Dill, Okla., Ezra OWENS of Lemesa, Texas; and Tom OWENS, address unknown; three daughters, Mrs Sarah BOLTON, Lemesa, Texas, Mrs. Beulah CROWDER, of Westwood, Calif., and Mrs. Roxie GOZA, Arkansas Pass, Texas

CRITTENDEN

Mrs. Violet CRITTENDEN, age 25 years, wife of Clifford CRITTENDEN, passed away in a Prairie Grove hospital Saturday, January 14, after receiving fatal burns three days previously when her housecoat caught fire while standing near the stove.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 18, at Council Hill, Okla., her former home, with burial in the cemetery there.
Beside her husband, Clifford CRITTENDEN, she is survived by two children, Emma Lee, 3 years, and Tommy, six months old; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.W. WOOD of Council Hill, and several brothers and sisters.

BIBY

Mrs. Pasha BIBY, wife of Bill BIBY, died at her home in Tulsa, January 16, after a long illness.
Funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at the local Pentecostal Holiness church, conducted by Rev. Arthur SMITH, Tulsa pastor, with burial in the Westville cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
Pasha HART was born September 16, 1893, dying at the age of 50 years and 4 months. She was united in marriage to William BIBY, July 23rd, 1909, to which union three children were born, Mrs. Herman OXFORD and J.C. BIBY of Tulsa, and A.C. BIBY, who is in the Armed Forces, stationed at Camp Millard, Ohio.
Other survivors include two grandchildren; five brothers, Bob HART of this city, Alfred HART of Stilwell, Rector HART, Glendale, Colo., Austin HART, Leavenworth, Wash., and Mel HART of Oologah, Okla.; two sisters Mrs. Mattie TULLIS, Westville, and Mrs. Irene MORRIS, Muskogee. Three half brothers and two half sisters also survive.

READLE

Mrs. Barbara READLE, 92 year old Chandler resident, died at 10 o'clock Saturday evening at her ranch home southeast of Chandler. Death was attributed to heart failure and occured after a two day illness.
Mrs. READLE had lived near Chandler since 1938; before coming here she was postmaster for twenty years at Miloma, Minnesota.
The funeral was held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Gibbons Mortuary in Mesa, the Rev. F.E. MORRISON officiating. Interment was in Mesa Cemetery.
The deceased is survived by a daughter, Nellie MITCHELL of Chandler, two granddaughters of Chandler and Denver and a grandson Captain Howard J. READLE, who is in the transportation service and is stationed in England. (Chandler Arizonan) Mrs. READLE, her daughter, Miss Nellie, and her grandson, Howard, lived on a farm northwest of town before moving to Chandler. They have many friends here who will be grieved at Mrs. READLE's passing

February 4, 1944

MCCLAIN

Funeral services for Elmer MCCLAIN, former resident of the Cincinnati community, who died in Tulsa Sunday, were held in that city Monday morning. The body was taken to Siloam Springs and burial was at 3 p.m. in the Oak Hill cemetery under the direction of the Wasson Funeral home of Siloam Springs.
He is survived by his wife and several children.
Several relatives and friends from here attended the services of Mr. MCCLAIN in Siloam Springs Monday afternoon.

February 11, 1944

WINGET

Funeral service was held at the Roberts Funeral Chapel Saturday at noon, conducted by Rev. E.H. WININGER, for W.H.(Bill) WINGET, who died at the home of his son, Babe WINGET, Friday, February 4, at the age of 84 years, and 11 months.
Mr. WINGET was born at Akron, Ohio, February 13, 1859. He came to this county in 1885.
In 1887, he was married to Miss Nanny A. MCCOY, who preceded him in death eleven years ago.
Surviving children are: Charlie WINGET, Wichita, Kansas, Babe WINGET, Westville, Mrs. Hannah LONDIGAN, Wells, Nev., Myrtle and Jess WINGET, Ranger, N.C., and Mrs. Nona SCOTT, Tulsa. Seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive.
Burial was made in the City cemetery.

WELCH

The funeral of Mose WELCH, age 61, who passed away at his home in Stockton, Calif., was held Sunday afternoon at the Roberts Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. Roy SMITH, pastor of the local Baptist church.
Mr. WELCH was well known in Westville and vicinity where he lived for fifty-seven years before going to California in 1940.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rachel WELCH; three sons, Almo WELCH, who is with the armed forces in Italy, Jack and Bert of the home; six daughtes, Grace TILLERY, Stella TILLERY, Oleta BARNETT, Geneva JORDAN, Helen POWERS, and Geraldine WELCH; 19 grandchildren; three brothers, Bruce, Nay and Mack WELCH; one sister, Mrs. Mollie HICKMAN.
Burial was in the Baptist Mission cemetery.

DILL

R.C. (Bob) DILL passed away in a Broken Arrow hospital Tuesday morning, February 15, following a short illness.
Mr. DILL had been in charge of the Whitmire store at Addielee for the past year.
Funeral service was held at Durham, Arkansas, Wednesday, with burial in the cemetery there.
He was an uncle of Mrs. J.F. ROBERTS of this city.

LEAK

Henry LEAK, age 66, a resident of Christie, died Wednesday, February 16, in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Louis TARKINGTON in Tahlequah, after an illness of several months.
Funeral service was held Thursday, conducted by Rev. J.C. MORRIS at the Christie School house, with burial in the City cemetery at Tahlequah.
Immediate survivors are his widow, Mrs. Edna LEAK; one son, Elbert C. LEAK of Okmulgee; two daughters, Mrs. TARKINGTON of Tahlequah and Virginia LEAK of Christie, and four grandchildren.

ARMISTEAD

Mr. and Mrs. Vernon HARRELL, Mrs. L.H. JONES, and Joel SELLERS were in Charleston, Ark., Sunday to attend the funeral of John Buford ARMISTEAD, an uncle of Mr. HARRELL and Mrs. JONES.
Mr. ARMISTEAD died at his home in Charleston Friday after a short illness.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary ARMISTEAD, and several nieces and nephews.

PHEASANT

Funeral service under the direction of the Roberts Funeral Home conducted by Rev. E.H. WININGER, was held Thursday at the Green school house for Mrs. Lula PHEASANT, age 68, who died at her home in that community February 12.
She is survived by three children, two sons, Tom PHEASANT, Westville and Andy PHEASANT of Huntington Park, Calif., and one daughter, Mrs. Jenny THRONTON, Westville. Four grandsons, two of whom are in the armed forces, also survive.

LEWIS

Mrs. Hattie THOMPSON LEWIS wife of Doc LEWIS, died in a Siloam Springs hospital Thursday, February 17, following a stroke on Sunday.
Mrs. LEWIS was born April 18, 1876, in Atlanta, Ga. She had lived in Adair county, north of Westville, for a number of years.
Funeral service was held Saturday at New Hope, conducted by Rev. W.F. COOLEY, Methodist minister of Siloam Springs.
Besides her husband, she is survived by six sons, George and Mac LEWIS, Jim and Bob HOLLAND all of Watts, Dean HOLLAND of Bixby, and Sgt. Tom HOLLAND, stationed at Shreveport, La.; 17 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one brother and two sisters. Burial was made in the New Hope cemetery.

NEAL

Funeral service was held Thursday at Proctor, under direction of Roberts Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Roy B. SMITH, for George W. NEAL, age 75, who died at his home in that community Tuesday, February 29.
Burial was made in the Proctor cemetery.

March 17, 1944

THURMAN

Funeral service was held Monday afternoon from the Roberts Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. Roy B. SMITH, pastor of the local Baptist church, for William (Bill) THURMAN, who died at his home northwest of town Saturday, March 11th. Although he had recently suffered an attack of influenza, his death was sudden.
Born at Viney Grove, Ark., 76 years ago, he had been a resident of this community fifty years.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ken MILLS of Drumright and Mrs. Jack MARTIN of Westville; one son, Fines THURMAN of Kansas City, Mo.; two stepsons, John KIRK of Westville and Wid KIRK of Tulsa; one sister and two brothers, and several grandchildren.
Burial was made in the Foreman cemetery west of town.

DAVIS

Funeral service was held Sunday at the Methodist Church in Siloam Springs for Second Lieutenant James Walter DAVIS, who was killed in an airplane crash at Louisville, Ky.
Lieutenant DAVIS is survived by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. DAVIS of Siloam Springs.
The DAVIS family lived in Westville a number of years ago and operated a shoe store when James Walter was a small boy.
The entire community extends sympathy of the bereaved parents.

FARLEY

Mrs. J.C. FARLEY of Siloam Springs was killed instantly at 4:30 Tuesday evening on highway 59 when the car in which she and her husband were riding collided on a sharp curve with a milk truck.
Mrs. FARLEY, 72 years old, was born near Weddington and had lived near Siooam Springs all her life. A daughter, Mrs. Everett DUNLAP, and a son, Jesse FARLEY live near Watts.

April 7, 1944

WHITMIRE

Death came Tuesday, April 4, in a Prairie Grove hospital to Mrs. M. Lorrane WHITMIRE as a result of cancer from which she had suffered for the past year.
Altho a resident of Addielee, Westville has lost one of her pioneer citizens as she and her husband, the late Eli WHITMIRE, made this their home in the early days. They had lived in the county for 48 years.
Born September 12, 1877 in Salem, Mo., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George BOUQUET.
Funeral service was held Thursday from the Roberts Funeral Chapel, conducted by Rev. B. V. PENDLEY.
Survivors include one son, Roy WHITMIRE, of Atlanta, Ga.; one granddaughter, several sisters and a host of other relatives and friends.
Burial was made in the Westville cemetery.

PIGLER

Andrew PIGLER, age 55, died suddenly March 30 in Vancouver, Washington, where he had been employed for sometime.
The body arrived here Tuesday and funeral service was held at the Roberts Funeral Chapel Wednesday at 2:30 conducted by Rev. Roy B. SMITH, pastor of the Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, who has been living in Tulsa; John PIGLER of the armed forces in England, Ernest PIGLER of Camp Robinson, Ark., Mrs. Loyd IRWIN of El Reno, Okla., Mary PIGLER and Helen PIGLER of Tulsa. Mrs. John PIGLER of Tulsa and Loyd IRWIN of Fort Reno, Okla., accompanied the family to Westville from Tulsa.
Burial was made in the Baptist Mission cemetery.

HECKMAN

Adam F. HECKMAN of Sulphur Springs, Ark., father of Mrs. Pete ALDERSON of this city, died at his home in Sulphur Springs, Monday after a few days illness of pneumonia.
Funeral service was held Tuesday at Sulphur Springs with burial in the Gravette, Ark., cemetery.

BAIN

Funeral service was held at the Luginbuel Funeral Home in Lincoln Thursday, May 27, for J.F. (Uncle Johnie) BAIN, age 91 years, who died at a Little Rock hospital Monday.
Mr. BAIN made Westville his home for a number of years in the early twenties, moving from here to Lincoln to live with his nephew, C.W. BAIN.
Survivors are several nieces and nephews.

MITCHELL

Robert R. MITCHELL, 32 years old, died suddenly with a heart attack following a severe case of pneumonia in a Navy Hospital at Port Hueneme, Calif. His body was shipped to Muskogee, where he lived before enlisting in the Navy a year ago, for funeral services Tuesday.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Bobby Gene, his mother, Mrs. Bell MITCHELL, one brother, Sgt. Donald MITCHELL, New York, five sisters, Mrs. L.J. BUSSEY and Mrs. D.F. LEWIS both of Muskogee, Mrs. Lila CRITTENDEN of Fairfax, Mrs. Edna CLIFFORD of Forgan, and Mrs. Joe WRIGHT of Westville.
Burial was made in the Greenhill Cemetery at Muskogee.

THURMAN

Funeral service was held Sunday at Weddington, Ark., for Mrs. Andy J. THURMAN, who died at her home in Tulsa Friday.
Mrs. THURMAN lived for a number of years at Cincinnati and has many friends in that community.
She is survived by her husband, two sons, her mother, two sisters and one brother. She was also a cousin to Mrs. Frank MOSS and Luther JONES of this city.

FISHINGHAWK

Mrs. Narcissa BOLES, of route 2, Westville, has recently been notified by the war department that her son, Neil FISHINGHAWK, has been killed in action in the foreign theatre of war.
Two years past another son of Mrs. BOLES, Harold FISHINGHAWK, was reported missing, and no other message received to date in regard to Harold.

LEHR

Word was received here Wednesday that Gus LEHR, a former Watts man, had died of a heart attack at Port Arthur, Texas, where he worked for an oil company.

WARD

We have recently been informed of the death of both Rev. and Mrs. A.F. WARD.
Reverend WARD was pastor of the local Methodist Church in the late twenties.
His death occured January 4, Mrs. WARD died in Waterloo, Iowa, March 29. Both were buried in Shawnee, Okla.

CROWE

Friends here have been notified of the death on May 9 of Mrs. J.A. CROWE at her home in Marysville, Calif.
The CROWE family are former Adair County residents having moved to California a few years ago.
Two of her sons, Sherman and Carroll CROWE, with their families joined their parents in the West the latter part of April.

BIZZELL

Dr. William Bennet BIZZELL, president emeritus to the University of Olahoma, died at midnight Saturday at his home in Norman following a lengthy illness. He was 68 years old.
Dr. BIZZELL who was president of the state's largest educational institution for 16 years before he retired in August, 1941, has been in ill health since he was stricken with a heart attack in May 1943.

CHAPMAN

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. J.C. MASTERS and Rev. HART were held Monday afternoon at the Roberts Funeral Home for Austin CHAPMAN who died at his home in Muskogee Friday night, May 19, following a heart attack.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters and one son. Several brothers and sisters also survive.
Burial was made in the Baptist Mission cemetery.

SHEFFIELD

In the passing of W.L. SHEFFIELD, Westville has lost another of her loved pioneer citizens.
Mr. SHEFFIELD died at his home here in Westville, Thursday evening, May 18, following a heart attack the day before.
William Leonard SHEFFIELD, son of Thomas E. and Mary WALKER SHEFFIELD, was born in Benton Co., Arkansas, September 27, 1870. He was married to Sarah Connie WASSON, February 16, 1896. To this union two sons were born, Elbert SHEFFIELD of Westville and Dick SHEFFIELD of Hanford, Washington.
He moved to Westville from Robinson, Arkansas, in 1898. He was engaged in the mercantile and hardware business for a number of years. A member of local Methodist Church since 1910, also affiliated with the Masonic lodge when a young man.
Funeral services were held at the Roberts Funeral Chapel, Wednesday afternoon May 24, conducted by Rev. J.C. MORRIS, former Methodist pastor, assisted by the Rev. Jess HOPKINS.
He is survived by his widow, two sons, three grandchildren, one aunt, a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Burial was in the City Cemetery. Active pallbearers were: J.N. HAMBLIN, I.A. FAHNESTOCK, M.R. TITTLE, Jr., W.C. BOST, V.B. HARRELL, and J.E. MCCUISTION.

MASSEY And HENDRICKS

A double funeral service was held Saturday at the Roberts Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Jesse HOPKINS, pastor of the Methodist church, for Mrs. J.B. MASSEY and her daughter, Mrs. Pete HENDRICKS. Mrs. HENDRICKS died following a car accident near Gentry, Ark., while enroute here from her home in Kansas City to see her mother who was ill with pneumonia.
The mother, Mrs. MASSEY, died in a Siloam Springs hospital two days after the tragic death of her daughter.
Mrs. MASSEY had been a resident of Westville for the past three years, was an active member in the Methodist church, Rebecca lodge and Arkoma club.
She is survived by her husband, two daughters, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
Burial was made in the Siloam Springs cemetery.
The daughter is survived by her husband, one son, and one daughter. The body was taken to Cushing, Okla., for burial.

COLVIN

Funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at the Baptist church, conducted by Rev. Roy B. SMITH assisted by Rev. Ira A. FAHNESTOCK, for Mrs. Mae COLVIN who died May 23, in New York City where she had resided for the past five years.
Born in Ashford County North Carolina, she came with her parents to Westville in early childhood. When a young girl, Mrs. COLVIN affiliated with the local Baptist church and was a faithful member even when non-resident.
In 1905 she was married to George ANDREU, to this union two sons were born, Dennis Gordon ANDREU, who preceded his mother 18 years ago, and Joseph Edgar ANDREU of Richmond, Calif. She is also survived by one grandchild, Martha Lee ANDREU, two sisters, Mrs. Rhoda SINGLETON, of Wister, Okla., and Mrs. Clara VANDERPOOL of Joplin, Mo.; three brothers,Edgar L. HOUCK, New York City, Joseph HOUCK, Holdenville, Okla., andClyde MCGUIRE, Hanford, Wash.
Burial was made in the City cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. J.H. BARBEE, of route 2, have been notified of the death on May 20, of granddaughter, Joyce BARBEE, four year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto BARBEE, of Seeney, Texas.

BIRD

Mrs. Sessie BIRD, 63 years old, Watts, Oklahoma, died at her home Tuesday morning.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Arcadia cemetery, five miles west of Siloam Springs, with Rev. John ROMAN officiating.
Burial under the direction of the Pyeatte Funeral service, was in Arcadia cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Charles and Steve BIRD, Stillwater, Okla.; four daughters, Phelix BIRD of the home, Mrs. Minnie PARRIS, Westville, Okla., Viola BIRD, Siloam Springs, and Mrs. Bessie VAN, Watts; and seven grandchildren.

HAWS

Funeral service was held at Cincinnati, conducted by Rev. Jess HOPKINS, assisted by the Westville Masonic Lodge, for George T. HAWS who died at his home in Westwood, California, Sunday, June 18.
Mr. HAWS was born near Summers, Arkansas, October 2, 1876. In 1898 he was married to Bessie Dean SMITH, who departed this life in 1926, to the union was born seven children, five of whom survive, who are: Ray HAWS, Pacific Grove, Calif., Dean HAWS, Mrs. Lucille ROWLAND, and Mrs. Mabel BOWMAN all of Westwood, California, and Edsel HAWS, who is in the service, stationed at Oklahoma City. In 1928 he was married to Mrs. Mary Jane JANUARY who also survives.
Burial was made in the Union cemetery at Cincinnati.

SISK

Mrs. Lish SISK, age 69 years died Wednesday at her home in Twin Oaks.
Four grandchildren also survive.

GRIMSLEY

Funeral of B. GRIMSLEY, 71 year old, was held at the Methodist church at Lincoln, Tuesday afternoon with Rev. WARRINGTON, pastor, officiating. Burial under direction of the Luginbuel Funeral Home was at the Bethesda cemetery. Mr. GRIMSLEY died early Monday.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary GRIMSLEY; a son, Taylor, Summers, Ark., and a daughter, Mrs. Robert KIRK of near Lincoln.

SIXKILLER

Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell SIXKILLER of Watts, Oklahoma, were notified Thursday by the war department that their son, Lieut. William SIXKILLER, died July 13th of wounds received in action on Siapan.
The young man was a grandson of Joe RUSSELL.

August 11, 1944

OXFORD

Mrs. Letha BRIGHT OXFORD, age 71 years, wife of William OXFORD died at her home north east of town Friday August 4th after a long illness.
Born near Lyddie Lee Springs, she has spent her entire life in this community.
Funeral service was held Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Stilman WHITELY of Fayetteville, from the Baptist Mission Church where she had been a member since early girlhood.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, two daughters, Miss Ruby OXFORD and Mrs. Edith HEAL, two brothers, Noah BRIGHT, Pawhuska, Okla., and Charlie BRIGHT of Long Beach, Calif., also two grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

WEAVER

Johnnie WEAVER, 13 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Hollis WEAVER, died Tuesday afternoon in Prairie Grove hospital where he had been taken on Monday suffering from lockjaw. Three weeks ago the lad had accidently cut his leg with a hatchet.
Funeral service was held Thursday afternoon at the Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by Rev. J.W. TULLIS. Immediate survivors are his parents, one sister, and three brothers.
Burial was made in the City Cemetery.

AKIN

Mrs. Emma AKIN has been informed by the war department that her son, Eldon AKIN was killed in France.
Age 22 years, young AKIN was born and reared here. He had been in service two years, twenty months had been served overseas.

GREENE

Funeral service was held Monday from the Roberts Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Rev. HOPKINS, for Mrs. Jennie HARRIS GREENE age 81 years, who died at her home here Sunday after an illness of more than a year.
Born in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, she and her husband, the late J.N. GREENE, had been residents of this community for many years.
All of their seven children survive. They are J.T. GREENE, Westville, A.L. GREENE, Pine Bluff, Ark., Mrs. Maud ADAMS, Prairie Grove, Ark., Mrs. Charlie JONES and Frank GREENE, Tulsa, A.J. GREENE, Westville, Mrs. Mary BERRY, Prairie Grove, Ark.

FOWLER

Mrs. Vick FOWLER, died at her home in the Chance community Monday.
Funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon from the home with burial in the Weddington Cemetery.

September 1, 1944

ESTES

Mrs. Bettie ESTES has been informed of the death of her brother, Dan ESTES, Allen, Okla., on August 19th.
Mr. ESTES was found on the railway track apparently having been hit by a passenger train. The seventy-four year old man was not identified for several hours after being found.
He is well known in this community having been born and spent most of his life near Summers, Ark.
Other survivors besides his sister here are three brothers, his wife, and thee sons and two daughters.

PACK

Mrs. Richard PACK, age 80, died at her home here early Monday morning. Born in Cherokee County, North Carolina, she had lived here for twenty five years.
The funeral was held Tuesday with burial in New Hope Cemetery

LOVERN

A.C. LOVERN, age 79 years, died Wednesday August 23 in the Bean Hospital in Lincoln where he had been a patient for several weeks.

SNYDER

John SNYDER, a former Westville citizen, died at his home in Okmulgee, Okla., early last week.
The body was returned here for burial in the Foreman Cemetery Saturday August 26.

September 8, 1944

ADAIR

Jesse Julian ADAIR, seven year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude ADAIR of Piney, died Wednesday morning, September 6, twelve hours after he had reached the Prairie Grove hospital. The child lost his balance as he started to jump off the running board of a truck in which he had ridden to school.
The funeral was held at Piney Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

GROOMS

Mrs. Dora GROOMS wife of W.P. GROOMS died at her home southeast of town Wednesday evening, September 6, after an illness of several months.
Mrs. GROOMS was a life long resident and highly respected lady of this community.
Survivors are her husband, W.P. GROOMS, one son, Frank of Westville, one daughter, Mrs. Sallie BAIN, of Tulsa, one grandson and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held from the Roberts Funeral Chapel Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. J.C. MORRIS and Rev. Jesse HOPKINS.

Funeral services for Mrs. Oscar CANNON were held at the home Sunday afternoon, burial in Baptist Mission Cemetery.

DILDINE

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Fannie DILDINE, pioneer resident of Westville, last Monday at the Weddington cemetery.
Mrs. DILDINE had been ill for some time at her home here. Death came at 3:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon.
She is survived by one son, Lee DILDINE, one daughter, Mrs. John MCGARRAH, and one brother, John MCCUISTION.

GREGG

E.E. GREGG of Miami passed away at his home Monday afternoon, October 19. Funeral service was conducted Thursday afternoon at the Westville cemetery.
Mr. GREGG is survived by his wife, who was known in Westville as Ollie SIMMONS.

CHRISTIE

James CHRISTIE was born November 16, 1872 in Going Snake District, Indian territory, which is now Adair county.
He died October 26, 1944 within half mile of where he was born and reared. He was married January 13, 1895 to Lulu STILL and to this union were born five children of whom four survive.
He leaves to mourn their loss his wife, four daughters, Lucy SMITH of Christie, Ella Mae PROPHET of Stilwell, Annie LANGLEY of Westwood, Calif., Addie NIX of Christie, one sister Emma CHRISTIE of the old home, five nieces, one nephew, nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter, besides other friends and relatives.
He was united with the Baptist Church of Westville in 1921. He was in very poor health for three years and realized his time on earth was short. He often talked of the Lord Jesus Christ and of being ready to leave this world. He suffered so much he was anxious and wanted to go.
He is at rest now from all his sufferings.

November 10, 1944

STILL

Westville was saddened by the death of Lloyd STILL Tuesday night. Lloyd and a companion were riding a north bound freight near the canning factory when the accident occured. While walking from one car to another, Lloyd fell between two cars.
Lloyd was born October 7, 1911 at Westville. The son of Tom and Mary STILL, his entire life was spent here.
He is survived by his parents, one sister. Mrs. Joe POWELL and six brothers, Howard, Thomas, Francis, Leonard, Reynolds and Noble STILL.
Services are to be conducted by Rev. HARDY at the Roberts Chapel at 3 p.m. Burial will be at the Foreman Cemetery.

BRIGHT

Last rites for John H. BRIGHT were conducted Thursday afternoon November 2, at the Baptist Mission church. Services were conducted by J.W. KINDLE.
Interment was made in the Baptist Mission Cemetery under the direction of the Roberts Funeral Home.

MASSEY

Joseph Blanchard MASSEY, retired railroad engineer, died Saturday at the John Brown Hospital at Siloam Springs.
Mr. MASSEY was born at Mammoth, Ill., October 1, 1860. Thirty-five years of his wife were spent as fireman and engineer on the Kansas City Southern Railway. Mr. MASSEY lived about thirty years at Watts and one at Westville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Watts Methodist Church, of which he was a member. Burial was made at Oak Hill Cemetery, Siloam Springs.

December 1, 1944

DAPPERT

J.E. DAPPERT, a resident of the community the past 12 years, died at his home east of Westville, November 16. Mr. DAPPERT was born in Taylorville, Ill., June 30, 1884.
Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Fayetteville, Ark.

MCKNIGHT

Mrs. Della MCKNIGHT, wife of G.F. MCKNIGHT, died December 9th. Burial was at Stilwell. She is well known with many friends in Westville.

WILSON

G.M. WILSON, born Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away December 13, 1944 in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nannie HOLLAND of Westville.
Four of his daughters were present, Mrs. Bessie WILLIAMS of El Dorado, Kansas, Mrs. Nannie HOLLAND of Westville, Mrs. Alice TRAPP, of Morrow, Okla. [Ark.], Mrs. Goldie WRIGHT of Tulsa. A daughter, Mrs. Mayme SPEARS of Portersville, California and a son of San Diego were not present.
Funeral service was conducted in the Roberts Funeral Chapel with Rev. Oscar MOORE of Okmulgee and Rev. J.B. LATTA officiating. Burial was in the Edmiston cemetery near Morrow, Arkansas.

OBER

Archie A. OBER, 62 year old Bentonvillian and former resident of Westville was killed last Thursday when his car skidded on the ice on the Allen Woods Road hill on U.S. Highway 71.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Minnie OBER, three sons, seven daughters, three brothers, two sisters, twenty-two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He is a brother of John OBER of this city.
