Ella Jo (Johnson) Baskin

On February 3, 1952, a beautiful baby girl, Ella Jo Johnson, was born to Earnest Johnson and Margaret Alexander in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

At an early age, Ella accepted Christ into her life, where she was baptized by Reverend James McDaniel. She united with Mount Zion Baptist Church in Muskogee, where she remained a member until her death. Ella served in the Youth/Senior Choirs, Mission Auxiliaries and attended all other activities. In March of 1971, she met William Baskin and together, they raised Leroy and Jerry. In August 2009, a short time after the death of her son, Leroy, Ella attended and actively participated in all services at Little Rose Baptist Church and Beebe Memorial CME Church.

Ella was a homemaker and in addition, during her younger years, she provided babysitting services to numerous people affiliated with Mount Zion. Ella was happy to receive best wishes, pictures and warm greetings from all the children she took care of over the years.

After 58 season of trusting in the Lord and doing her best to serve Him, Ella was called home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, May 11, 2010.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Margaret, her son, Leroy, foster-mother, Ellen Brewer, her grandmother, grandfather and an aunt.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory; her spouse, William Baskin, of the home; her son, Jerry Jolly; her grandchildren, Le'Anndria, Adrianna, D'Alexandria, Leroy Jr., Shalecia, Alerianne, Latavia and Latavion Johnson, all of Muskogee; her cousins, Betty Wilson, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Richella Edmondson, Owasso, Oklahoma, Ruthie [Irvin] Alexander, Dallas, Texas; her sister-in-law, Betty Striblen, Rentiesville, Oklahoma; her brother-in-law, Ellis Baskin, Seguin, Texas; along with other relatives and friends.

The final hour with Sister Ella will be on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. in the Little Rose Baptist Church. Rev. Paul S. Washington, Pastor, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Honey Springs Cemetery at Rentiesville, Oklahoma.

You may visit her, as she slumbers at the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., on Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM.
