Homer Lee Prater, 88, lifetime McIntosh County resident, died Sunday, March 15, 2009 in Checotah, Oklahoma.

He was born on Monday, September 27, 1920 in Pierce, Oklahoma to B and Sulie Shephard Prater.

Homer grew up in Pierce where he received his education.
 

Homer entered the United States Air Force on Wednesday, October 21, 1942 in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. He served during the Ardennes, Rhineland, and the Central Europe Campaign, receiving the American Theater Service Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Services Medal, 3 Bronze Battle Stars, Air Medal Go #113 and the Victory Medal. He received an Honorable Discharge on Saturday, November 17, 1945 in Sheppard, Texas.

He returned to Oklahoma where he met, fell in love and later married Betty Etchison on Saturday, November 1, 1947 in Okmulgee, OK.
 

Homer was a farmer and rancher. Homer was a wonderful Husband, Dad, Grandpa and was known as a very honest man, full of integrity, willing to help anyone. He was a member of the Checotah Church of Christ and the V.F.W. Post 7624.
 

He was preceded in death by his Parents; Brothers, Johnie Prater, Ernest Prater, Jack Prater, Jimmy Prater; Sister, Ella MaePrater.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Betty of the home; Sons, Robert Prater and his wife Barbara, Daniel Prater and his wife Lena all of Checotah; Several Grandchildren and Great- grandchildren. Two Brothers, Donal Prater and Roy Prater; A Sister Oleta Gunther and Four Sisters-in-law, other extended family and a host of friends.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at the Checotah Church of Christ with Mr. Everett Dunn and Mr. Stanley Thompson, officiating.

Committal prayers and Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery with Derrill Etchison, Greg Jacobs, Tim Frame, Doug Madewell, Barry Howell and Roy Matthews serving as Casket Bearers. Mr. Lee Stidham, Jerry Faught, Al Tate, A.D. Stone, Randy McIver, Dr. Ong, Victor Emerson, Buddy Forbe s, Bill Bolling, Jack Hefner, Curt Working and Dr. Mitch Myers will serve as Honorary Casket Bearers.
 

Military Honors will be provided by the United States Air Force Funeral Detail.
