Muskogee Daily Phoenix and Times-Democrat (OK)- November 5, 2008

November 05, 2008 11:34 pm—Elmer “Red” Shaver, 73, of Eufaula, passed away at the Muskogee Regional Medical Center, November 1, 2008.“Red” was born August 2, 1935 to John and Ella Mae (Austin) Shaver in Eufaula, OK. Shirley Haley and Elmer were joined in holy wedlock at their minister’s home in 1956.“Red” was born and raised in Eufaula where he attended Booker Washington School through the 10th grade, after which he joined his dad doing field work. In 1965 he began cooking, and was a chef at the Canadian Arrowhead Lodge, among other lodges in the area. In addition to working as a chef, he also spent a short time in the United States Army. After retirement he loved checking out the area by walking around and picking up cans and observing his surroundings. He also enjoyed riding and working with his horse.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Shaver of the home; daughter, Beverly and husband Ivory Moore, Tulsa, OK; brother, John and wife Bessie Shaver, Eufaula, OK; grandchildren, Amber, Cadace, Jonathan and Ryan; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard Shaver; brothers, Will Shaver, Walter Milner, H. O. Milner, Leon Milner and P.C. Shaver; sisters, Willa Mae Milner, Ella Mae Milner, Johnnie Mae Shaver and Marie Milner.

Services for “Red” will be held Saturday, 1:00 p.m. November 8 in the Wayland Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Ray Lewis officiating, assisted by Rev. Samuel Harper; burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family has entrusted final arrangements to Johnson’s of Eufaula.
