John R. “Ron” McCalip, age 69 of Washington, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2017, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Okla. City.

John Ronald McCalip was born February 21, 1948 in Norman, OK, the youngest of 3 children born to John Earnest McCalip and Cora Marie (Cotner) McCalip. Ron was raised in the Goldsby/Norman area and attended school in Norman, graduating in 1966. In November of 1967, Ron answered the call to serve his country entering the National Guard. He was then ordered to active duty as a member of the United States Navy. Ron was a proud patriot and served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. On June 12, 1969, in Norman, OK, Ron married his best friend and the love of his life, Lana Joy Jones. They first made their home in Norman, but eventually settled in the Purcell/Washington area, where together they raised two sons, Alan and Brian. Ron spent his first 18 years in utility construction, working for the City of Norman, before joining the University of Oklahoma in 1986, where he worked through 2009. When not working, Ron enjoyed fishing. He looked forward to playing dominos with his brothers and he never missed an opportunity to curl up with a good book. He enjoyed visiting with people, and he truly never met a stranger. Ron was a man of great faith and a family man. He cherished Lana, and was a wonderful father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed!

He was preceded in death by: His parents, John Earnest and Cora McCalip and His brother, Don McCalip.

John leaves behind: His wife, Lana of the home; His boys, Alan McCalip and wife Cindy of Washington and Brian McCalip and wife Brandy of Washington; His brother, Norman Ernest McCalip and wife Lenora of Noble; 5 grandchildren, Carson, Emma, Andrew, Owen and Cora and A host of other family and friends.

Graveside Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 20, 2017, at the Washington Cemetery. Arrangements by Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell. Send online condolences @ wilsonlittle.com.
