Betty Jean Madden age 80 of Washington, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Norman Regional Hospital after an extended illness.

She was born September 7, 1934 in Byars, Oklahoma. She was the 4th daughter of eight daughters born to William Thomas Shaw and Lois Elmira (Prince) Shaw. Betty grew up in a large farm family living in the Washington, Cole and Blanchard area. She learned how to work hard as a young girl and she continued that same work ethic throughout her life. Betty attended school at Blanchard and at the age of 14, she met the love of her life, Levi Isaac Madden. They were later married on January 4, 1952 in Norman, OK and together raised six children. While raising her children, Betty also worked outside of the home. She first began her working career in food service for the University of Oklahoma. Then in 1969 she went to work at Western Electric in OKC. She later retired from Lucent Technology in 1991. Betty was a wonderful wife, a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Throughout her life she was an awesome cook and a wonderful seamstress. She made many identical outfits for her three daughters. She loved to crochet, knit, read, play bingo, stopping at garage sales. After Levi passed away she enjoyed traveling with her best friend, Florence Green. Betty loved her family and had a close relationship with all of her sisters. Several times a year she would travel to California and Nevada to spend time with her sisters and their families.

She was preceded in death by: Parents, Bill and Lois Shaw; Husband, Levi Madden on Dec. 19, 1995; Two sisters, Colleen Smith and Barbara Bruehl; Also an infant brother,

She is survived by: Six children and their families, Jeanne Meyer of Norman, Sharon McPherson and wife Terry of Maysville, Janet Bennett and husband Jim of Dibble, Randy Madden and wife Lori of Lexington, Timothy Madden and wife Michelle of Washington, Kendall Madden and wife Amanda of Teague, TX. 21 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, Her best friend, Florence Green of Washington Five sisters, Fay Grisham of Delhi, CA. Ena Finley of Sparks, NV. Fern Lamica of Saratoga, CA. Sue Smith of Noble, Billie Smith of Norman; Brother-in-law, Samuel Madden and wife Vera of Washington; Sister-in-law, Ruth Madden of Washington; Also many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, July 25, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Washington, OK.
