Vanessa Joyce Long was born May 30, 1954 in Portsmouth, VA, the oldest of 3 children born to John Peavey Long Sr. and Edna Faye (Harris) Long. She spent her early childhood in the Mobile, Alabama area, later settling in Moore where she graduated from High school. Vanessa married her best friend and life partner, Jon Hampton Goldsby on December 3, 1971. Together they raised a son, Eric. Vanessa attended Oklahoma City Community College where she earned an Associate’s Degree in Art History. Throughout the years, she worked various odd jobs, but her greatest joy was being a wife and mother. Vanessa worked hard caring and providing for Jon and Eric. She was a history buff and especially enjoyed studying family genealogy, both on the Goldsby and Long sides. She loved a good Elvis song, and any Cary Grant movie, and she worked thousands of crossword puzzles. Vanessa was a genuinely happy person and she smiled regardless of her circumstances. She will be dearly missed!
