Loretta Dodson, age 83 of Washington, passed away Friday, December 09, 2016.

Loretta Ann Schein was born October 15, 1933 in Yukon, OK, 1 of 6 children born to Walter and Anna (Holman) Schein. She spent her early years in Yukon and later Pocasset where she attended school. Loretta married the love of her life, Jack Dodson, on September 4, 1954 in Piedmont, OK. They settled in Washington, OK in 1960 where together they raised 3 sons, Chuck, Tom and Carl. Loretta faced many challenges balancing life with her young family, but eventually returned to school, earning her Bachelors in Education. She often joked that “it only took me 20 years to graduate”, but none the less, she finished! She taught elementary school at Washington Public Schools, retiring after 20 years of dedicated service. Loretta cherished her entire family and enjoyed getting them together as often as possible. She was especially close to and proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed being with them, teaching them and talking about them and their accomplishments. Her active life of helping others was a testimony of her faith as many will agree. She was a longtime active and faithful member of the Washington United Methodist Church. Besides being active in her church, she volunteered her time and resources to many organizations and individuals. Recently she has been listening to children read at home and school and also teaching children to sew. Other volunteer work was with the Alzheimer’s Association, CASA, Meals on Wheels, hospice, county extension clubs, etc. She was extremely fond of her many friends that she had at the Washington Senior citizens center, her “Sassy Sisters” group and her many quilting buddies. Loretta was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and true friend. She will be dearly missed!

She was preceded in death by: Her husband, Jack Dodson; Her parents, Walter and Anna Schein and A brother, Glen Schein.

Loretta leaves behind: Her sons, Chuck Dodson and wife Carla of Washington, Tom Dodson and wife Lori of Washington and Carl Dodson and wife Edna of Altus, OK; Sister, Mary Culver of El Reno; 3 brothers, Gordon Schein of OKC, OK, Lawrence Schein and wife Janice of Pocasset and Leroy Schein and wife Vickie of Pocasset; 6 grandchildren, Brad Dodson and wife Angie, Ryan Dodson and wife Lauren, Rachel Khmarsky and husband Vlad , Michael Studdard, James Studdard and Mark Dodson; 2 great grandchildren, Jack and Mackenzie Dodson and A host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Monday, December 12, 2016, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Washington United Methodist Church or you can donate your time and listen to a child read.
