Glen Edward Christian age 83 of Purcell, passed away Wednesday May 29, 2013 at St. Anthony Hospital in OKC. He was born on February 16, 1930 in Colony, Oklahoma. He was the oldest child of seven children born to John William Christian and Laura Oma (Thornton) Christian. Glen grew up a farm boy living in the Purcell area. As a young boy he learned how to work hard. He kept that same work ethic throughout his life. Glen graduated from Purcell High School in 1948. While in H.S. he was active in FFA and raised pigs. Glen married his true love, Mildred Louise Burns, a young lady from Washington, OK. They were married on September 2, 1951 at the First Baptist Church in Washington. Glen and Mildred made their home on a farm SW of Purcell where they taught their three children how to farm and ranch. Glen was very active in the lives of his children, in his church and in his community. While his children were growing up his family raised chickens and sold eggs to area grocers in Purcell and Norman. Glen had many occupations throughout his life but his main endeavor was farming and ranching. He raised cattle, broomcorn, wheat, cotton and alfalfa hay and also did custom harvest work. For 16 years from 1963-1979, Glen was a McClain Co. Commissioner for District 2. He was a past member and president of the Purcell Chamber of Commerce, of the Purcell Lions Club, of ASCOG, of the Purcell JAYCEE’s and he served on the McClain Co. Fair Board. During these years, Glen also found time to operate a Dozer Business, to be a Land Developer and a Real Estate Broker. He developed the Christian Addition and Co-Developed the Hallmark Trailer Park in Purcell. Glen faith was also very important to him. For over 55 years he served as a deacon, building committee chairman, and church member at Union Hill Baptist Church west of Purcell. Glen and Mildred enjoyed traveling and looked forward to trips with their lifelong friends, Bill and Velma Bacon.

He was preceded in death by: His parents, John and Oma Christian Wife: Mildred on October 9, 2012 Glen leaves behind: His daughter, LuGlena Moore and husband Randy of Washington, Two sons, Tony Christian and wife Patti of Purcell, Scott Christian and wife Bobbi of Purcell, Six grandchildren, Eddie Moore, Valerie Burns, Brandi Christian, Mandi Mayer, Colby Christian and Taylor Christian; Two Step grandchildren, Apryl and Joe Bryant;

 

eight great grandchildren, Tanner, Trevor, Tyler, Laramy, Layton, Lawson, Lilly and Eden, Two brothers; James “Sonny” Christian and wife Peggy of Purcell, David Christian and wife Norma of Noble,

Four sisters: Pauline Hartley of Edmond, Ruth Morphew and husband Phillip of Eufaula, Janice Jones and husband Kenneth of Purcell, Norma Howard of Purcell, Also many nieces, nephews and a host of other family members and friends.

Donations in Glen’s name can be made to the Union Hill Baptist Church Building Fund.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 3, 2013, at the Union Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Washington Cemetery
