Thomas Steele Calvert, age 86, of Purcell passed away Friday, April
26, 2013 at the Purcell Municipal Hospital. He was born October
17, 1926 in rural McClain County the oldest of 2 children and the
only boy born to Thomas Jefferson Calvert & Laura Steele
Calvert. He attended Washington & Purcell Schools graduating
from Purcell High School in 1944. After graduation he was
drafted into the US Army proudly serving his country for 2
years. In 1946 he began his college career at Okla. State
University graduating in 1950 with an Animal Husbandry Degree.
While attending OSU he met Laura June Thompson and they were
married June 51948 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in
Okla. City. Later in 1952 he began working for the Soil
Conservation in Lindsay. Over the span of years from 1952 to
1985 he continued working for the Soil Conservation in Lindsay, Chickasha& Purcell retiring in 1985. He also raised
cattle on his farm west of town.
He was preceded in death by: Parents: Jeff & Laura Wife: June
Calvert 2 Children: William Jay & Laura Ann Calvert
Daughter-In-Law: Rohna Calvert
He survived by: 2 Sons: Tom Calvert of Purcell Robert Calvert &
wife Bobbie of Purcell 4 Grandchildren: Kelly Calvert & husband
Matt McLure of Northfield, IL Jenny Denny & husband Will of Norman
Scott Calvert & wife Toni of Purcell Sara Caspers & husband
Casey of Moore 3 Great Granddaughters 1 Sister: Sue Staggs
McAlister of Washington and A host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Union
Hill Baptist Church in Purcell. Burial will be at Washington
Cemetery.
