Leo Unruh age 79 of Newcastle, formerly of Enid, passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2015 surrounded by his family at Norman Regional Healthplex. He was born August 15, 1936 in Enid, Oklahoma. Leo was the 13th child of 13 children born to Cornelius Bernard Unruh and Katherina (Koehn) Unruh. Leo grew up in the Enid area and attended his last three years of high school at Hayward, where he graduated in 1954. One year later he married the love of his life, Gertie Joann Koehn. They were married on July 30, 1955 in Ringwood and recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Together Leo and Gertie raised two children, Greg and Kathy. In his earlier years of marriage they moved often and set up homes in Michigan, Texas and Oklahoma. For several years he owned and operated his own business in Ringwood called “Unruh Hardware”. Other companies he worked for were Goldspot Dairy and Farmland Industries. His last job was working for ONG as a leakage Survey Technician. Before retiring he was able to invent a mobile survey tool that aided in detecting natural gas leaks. Leo was a faithful Christian man throughout his life. While living in the Enid area he was an active member of the Emanuel Baptist Church for 29 years and served as an church usher. In 2005 he and Gertie moved to Newcastle, OK to be close to their children and grandchildren. While living in Newcastle he has been a member of the Newcastle First Baptist Church and was active in Sunday School. He also served faithfully for the Union Baptist Mission Builders with his wife. He was devoted to his daily bible reading. Leo’s main hobby was woodworking. Over the years he made and gave away numerous pieces of furniture and wood projects to his family and friends. Other hobbies include playing solitaire on the computer, and playing turkey dominoes with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by:

Parents, CB and Katherina Unruh; 11 brothers and sisters, Dena, Mary, Lena, Lizzie, Susie, Mabel, Dan, Frank, Paul, Tillie and Leroy;

He is survived by: Wife, Gertie Unruh of the home; Son, Greg Unruh and wife Jennifer of Blanchard, Daughter, Kathy Patton and husband Troy of Cincinnati, Ohio; One brother, Walter Unruh and wife Madeline of Athens, TX; Two brothers-in-law, Robert Koehn of Ringwood and Richard Koehn of Meno; Two sisters-in-law, Merle Unruh of TX and Linda Koehn and husband Kenneth of Enid; Four grandchildren, Ashley Patton of Athens, OH, Ross Patton and wife Katie of Ashland, OH, Meagan and Cameron Unruh of Blanchard, OK. Also many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Newcastle, OK. Interment will be at the Newcastle Memorial Gardens. Memorials gifts may be made to the Union Baptist Mission Builders or Reaching Souls International. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Newcastle, OK.
