Larry Winston Fitch Obit

Aug 12, 1943 - Jun 19, 2015

Larry was born to Clarence and Helen (Hatchett) Fitch on 12 August 1943 in Casa Grande, AZ. He grew up on a cotton farm near Stanfield, AZ.

Larry and his high school sweetheart, Linda, were married on 31 May 1965. After he graduated high school he attended Grand Canyon College in Phoeniz, AZ. He then transferred to Oklahoma Baptist Universary where he graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts. He completed his Bachelor of Laws in 1972 at LaSalle University.

Larry attended the First Baptist Church of Stanfield, AZ where he was baptized at the age of six. He remained active in churches his entire life. He taught Sunday school for over 50 years in various churches and was ordained a deacon at First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City. In this capacity he served on numerous committees for over 27 years including Chair of Deacons, Finance and Personnel. He and Linda were active supporters for FBC's charitable missions which included Care for OKC food pantry and clothing closet, Good Shepherd Free Medical and Dental Clinic and various mission groups.

Larry worked for General Adjustment Bureau from 1965 to 1968. He then joined United States Fidelity & Guaranty Company (later St. Paul Insurance Company and then The Travelers) in 1968 from which he retired after 30 years in 1998. He had several positions during those years. He served as Claims Manager, Agency & Development Manager, Vice President & Branch Manger. He worked in Albuquerque, NM, Baltimore, MD, Toledo, OH and Oklahoma City, OK. When he retired he was Regional Vice President, Western Division in Denver, CO. From 2006 until his death he was the General Manager of OK Property & Casualty Insurance Guaranty Fund.

Larry's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid Oklahoma University football fan and loved to drive “his girls₋, Linda, Jeanie and Trisha, to the games in his big, red F-150. Larry's loving, kind and gentle nature was encountered by everyone who met him and he was always willing to devote his time and assistance to anyone in need. Larry's compassion, optimism and sense of humor towards others will be greatly missed.

Larry is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda, and two sons, Brent Fitch and wife Anita of Vicenza, Italy and David Fitch and wife Carol of Perrysburg, OH. He and Linda have six grandchildren: Andrew, Anthony, Maya and Sara Fitch, Derrick Durivage (Erica) and Amanda Zacharis (Andy). His sister, Dana Dumont (Walter) and his mother-in-law, Sybil Wilson along with numerous nephews and nieces and many treasured friends.

Private interment was conducted at Newcastle Memorial Gardens by Reverend Tom Ogburn. A Celebration of Larry's life was held at Frist Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, 1201 N Robinson St, Oklahoma City, OK at 2 pm on Saturday, 27 Jun 2015 with a reception and visitation.

The family suggested charitable donations to honor Larry in lieu of flowers. Donations to be made to the charity of your choice or to one of Larry's favored ones. The PKD Foundation for Polycystic Kidney Disease, Wounded Warrior Project or First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City.
