Duane Brakefield, age 85 of Wayne, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020.

William Duane Brakefield was born August 21, 1935 in the Hopping Community near Wayne. He was the 5th of 10 children born to JC and Myrtle (Beatrice) Brakefield. He was raised in Wayne and attended school there, graduating with the Bulldog Class of 1954. While in school, on a bus ride home, Duane saw a young lady sitting alone, and asked if he could sit with her. Her name was Ramona Reynolds, and this bus ride led to a lifetime of love. They were married June 4, 1955 in Wayne and together they raised two children, son Patrick and daughter, Pamela. Duane worked side by side with his father and brothers, as a carpenter. He was meticulous and known widely for his attention to detail and his reputation carried his career for many years. In retirement, Duane built a shop so he could tinker around with his woodworking projects, and he shared his many talents with his family and friends. He enjoyed tending to his garden, loved classic country music and never missed an opportunity to watch a good ole western. He was a man of great faith and served the Lord in many ways throughout the years, including Sunday school teacher and serving as Deacon. He was a loving and thoughtful, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed!
