Charles "Charlie" Tompkins

Charles ‘Charlie’ Tompkins, age 70 of Wayne, passed away Wednesday, May 01, 2013. Charles was born February 27, 1943 in McClain Co., OK, the younger of two children born to Irven Ray Tompkins and Leora Mae (Rollins) Tompkins. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1961. While in school, Charlie was a standout basketball player and active in the F.F.A. He attended the University of Oklahoma where he studied Architecture, and later graduated electronics school in Oklahoma City. Charlie was drafted into the United States Army and served his country proudly as a medic during the Vietnam War. After his service, Charlie returned home to Oklahoma and married his best friend and soul mate; a young woman from Wayne named Bettye Linn Wallace in April of 1967. They made their home in Wayne, where together they raised 3 children; daughter, Christy and sons, Rodney and Ryan. Charlie worked at Tinker as an Aviation Electronics Technician for many years. After retiring from Civil Service, he took a job with the McClain County Assessor’s Office and retired as a Field Deputy in 2003. Charlie loved the Lord and was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Lexington. He cherished his wife and kids, and especially his grandchildren and he loved spoiling them. Charlie was an outdoor guy. He loved farm work, his goats and cows and tinkering on his tractor in his barn. He will be greatly missed!

He was preceded in death by: His parents, Irven and Leora Tompkins and His daughter, Christy Tompkins.

Charlie leaves behind: His wife of more than 46 years, Bettye Tompkins, of the home; His sons, Rodney Tompkins and wife Maegan of Newcastle and Ryan Tompkins and wife DaNeil of Arlington, TX; 6 grandchildren, Kaleb, Kade, Karson, Kole, Gage and Landri; His sister, Arlene Cloud and husband Randall of Norman; Brother-in-law, Billy Brooke Wallace of OKC; Niece, Brandy Osmus of Bentonville, AR, Nephews, Steven Cloud of Norman and Dan Wallace and wife Stephanie of Lindsay; And many other family and friends.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 3, 2013, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Hillside Cemetery.
