A Mass of Christian Burial for Ruth Emelia Fossati Evans, 92, of Dallas, Texas, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2013 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Purcell. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell. A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Mrs. Evans died Sept. 30, 2013 at her home in Dallas.

She was born Feb. 22, 1921 in Victoria, Texas, the daughter of Caeton and Lillian Fossati. She was reared in Victoria where her father was the owner of Fossati’s Delicatessen, the oldest deli in the state of Texas. She graduated from Nazareth Academy in Victoria and Victoria College. She taught school at the Swickheimer Ranch for several years and worked in the Victoria County Assessor’s Office. Mrs. Evans met her husband, Richard R. Evans, when he moved to town working as a petroleum engineer with Sunray DX. He lived with her aunt and uncle, who lived across the street from her. They were married Oct. 25, 1952 in Victoria. They lived in various towns where he was transferred with the company including Falfurris, Texas, where their son, Richard, was born, Hope, Ark., where their daughter, Gracie, was born, Tulsa, Okla., Oklahoma City, Dallas and Houston. She was a homemaker who loved gardening and taking care of her family. Her grandchildren, who affectionately called her Fufi, were the apple of her eye and she and Richard were crazy about their great-grandson, John Denny “Jack” Montgomery IV.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Richard R. Evans of Dallas; son, Richard T. Evans and his wife, Chris, of Tulsa; daughter, Gracie Montgomery and her husband, John D., of Purcell; three grandchildren, Rachael Evans of Salem, Mass., John Denny Montgomery III and wife, Emily, of Purcell and Matt Montgomery of Norman; one great-grandson, John Denny (Jack) Montgomery IV of Purcell and one great-grandchild on the way. Also surviving is her sister, Grace E. Fossati of Victoria. Pallbearers will be John Denny Montgomery III, Matt Montgomery, Mike Clark, Bill Moakley, Brad Clark and Jim McAuley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 1280, Purcell, OK 73080; the Purcell Public School Foundation, 919 1/2 N. Ninth, Purcell, OK 73080 or Nazareth Academy, 206 W. Convent, Victoria, TX 77901
