Evangelist George “G.W.” Birdsong age 87, of Purcell, OK, completed his final journey and entered heaven's gates on Monday evening, February 15, 2016. He was surrounded by his family at the Norman Regional Hospital when he passed.

Rev. G.W. Birdsong was the youngest and last surviving member of eight children born to Corbit Birdsong and Maude (Howard) Birdsong. He was born July10, 1928 near Golden Pond in far western Kentucky. G.W. was saved at the young age of 11years old in his little home church, Hopewell Baptist. After attending a revival near his home he decided to join with the Holiness people. He and his brother Dan, who were already accomplished singers and musicians in their community, began touring the United States singing gospel music when he was only 13 years old. G.W. preached his first message at the age of 15, and that ministry took him to all 50 states and many foreign countries carrying the gospel. He made his final evangelistic tour in the fall of 2015. While preaching a camp meeting in Blanchard, OK he met a beautiful young lady by the name of Edna Fern George, who played the piano and sang with her parents the late Rev. Dovie and Lola George. G.W. and Fern were married on October 5, 1950 and enjoyed 65 years of marriage. To this union was born two sons and one daughter Junior, Lendell and Gayla.

He was preceded in death by; Son, Junior who died in a car accident in 1983.

He is survived by: Son, Lendell and wife Cyndi of Norman, OK, Daughter, Gayla Lovell and husband Roger of Sapulpa, OK; six grandchildren, Georgetta Lovell Tinnin of OKC, Catrina Lovell of Sapulpa, OK, Cassandra Birdsong Bosch, of Broken Arrow, OK, Valerie Birdsong Isaacs also of Broken Arrow, Tamara Birdsong Brock, of Kellyville OK, Devin Birdsong of Prim, Arkansas; Daughter-in-law, Sandy Birdsong of Irving, Texas. And he was a proud great grandfather of fifteen great grandchildren, including the Tinnin Quads; Also several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

The Birdsong's ministry touched the lives of many, many people across the world. A Visitation will be Wednesday evening Feb. 17, from 5:30 to 8:00 pm at the Blanchard Trinity Holiness Church, Blanchard, OK.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 18, at 1:00 pm First Baptist Church in Blanchard.

Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. Arrangements are by Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
