Viola Marie Etter died February 26, 2014 in Chickasha, Oklahoma at the age of 91 years 5 months 29 days.


Marie was born August 28, 1922 in Dibble, Oklahoma, the second of 6 children, to Samuel and Lelah Bessie (Berry) McGaha. She was raised and attended school in the Dibble area. On May 11, 1940, she marred Estee Murray, and raised three sons; Lester Lee, J.R. and Larry Dean Murray. Marie loved children, and they loved her in return. Often she cared for children in her home while their parents were working. She learned the art of cooking and canning from her Mom, and was always busy canning vegetables and fruits in season. Marie was a wonderful cook, and everyone loved to visit and taste her home cooking. She married John Etter on June 5, 1974.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Lester Lee Murray, when he was twenty; husband, John Etter; sister, Myrtle Price and her husband, Ray; brothers, Elmer and wife, Eula (Miller) McGaha, Raymond and wife, Mary (Nixon) McGaha, Alden and wife Dorothy (Jackson) McGaha, Donald McGaha; daughter-in-law, Elaine (Nubby) Murray; granddaughter, Chastane Marie Murray.

Survivors include her sons, J. R. Murray and wife, Sandy fo Shawnee, Larry Murray of Cox City; (3) grandchildren, Jason Murray and wife, Wendi of Shawnee, Alisha Murray of Shawnee, Melissa Murray and life-partner, Dan Rogers of Marlow; (3) great-grandchildren, Jaxon Murray, Easton Murray, both of Shawnee, Devin Murray-Bonham of Marlow; sister-in-law, Lou Ellen (Winnard) McGaha of Dibble, and many other relatives and friends.
