Eisenhour Funeral Home
Blanchard, McClain Co, OK
(permission granted)

After a courageous battle with kidney failure, Wayne passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on September 13th, 2020 in his home surrounded by his family. Son of Charles and Lillian Wehrer, Wayne was born in Norfolk, Nebraska on March 30th, 1936. At just 3 months old, Wayne and his family made the move to Shawnee, Oklahoma where they lived until he was 9 years old. The family then moved to El Reno, Oklahoma where he was raised with his two sisters. Wayne graduated from El Reno High School in 1955. Post graduation, he joined the Navy where he served as a radar man aboard the U.S.S Higbee. Upon completion of his service, he followed in his family’s footsteps and served as a brakeman on the Rock Island Railroad in both Oklahoma and later in Iowa. Wayne married Patsy Ann Peace in 1962 and they had three children together. In 1969, he returned to Oklahoma and retired from Tinker Field with more than 20 years of service. After retirement, he and his wife Patsy moved to Blanchard, Oklahoma where they have lived since 1999. Wayne’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his four grandchildren, better known as his “pickles.” Affectionately known as "Papa," he was always there to cheer them on and never missed any of their activities

One of his favorite pastimes was watching old westerns, including GunSmoke and anything with John Wayne. He was the definition of "true grit." Wayne had a love for sports, especially football. He loved watching both of his grandsons play for the Blanchard Lions and was a great fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, both the Dallas and OSU Cowboys, as well as any team that was playing against OU. He had a love for his dogs, Nancy dog, his labrador Rex, Schnauzers, Lola and Sophie, and all of his grand-pups. He also had the best-fed squirrels and birds in town.

Wayne was preceded in death by his infant son, Tony, his parents, Charles and Lillian Wehrer, his brothers, Donald Workman and Don Wehrer, sister, Margie Holland, and nieces, Linda Cullers and Teri Randall. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patsy, of Blanchard, his son Greg and wife Marla, of Blanchard, daughter Shelly Clay and husband Jeff, of Blanchard, grandchildren Lauren, Garrett, Audrey and Carson, all of Blanchard, sister Mary Stoner of Oklahoma City and his niece Connie and husband Ken Moore of Oklahoma City. Along with many other family members and friends, Wayne is also survived by long-time best friend, Bob Hedrick and wife Loretta.

Family would like to extend a special thank you to Physician’s Choice Hospice, Dr. Brad Carter, and long-time physician and friend, Dr. Charles Bethea for their outstanding care. Graveside services will be Thursday, September 17th, 2020, at 11:30 AM at the Blanchard Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard. Online obituary and guestbook are available at www.eisenhourfh.com.
