Leon Edward Thomas, 89, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Newcastle, died Saturday, September 29, 2012 in Oklahoma City. The son of Edward Delmus and Beulah Mae (Davis) Thomas, he was born August 4, 1923 in Ringling, Oklahoma.

Leon was a US Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Leon married Ruthey Ray Greenroyd on November 4, 1942 in Ringling, Oklahoma.

She preceded him in death on August 9, 2012 after nearly 70 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sue Shipman; and two brothers, Tom and Jay Thomas.

Leon retired as a paint crew foreman for the City of Oklahoma City. He was a member of the American Legion where he held many offices including Commander. He volunteered many hours at the VA Center in Sulphur, as well as the American Legion Children’s Home in Ponca City. During his retirement, Leon enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, fishing, camping, and hunting birds. He and his wife served as camp hosts at many state parks in Oklahoma.

He is survived by one son, Jackie Thomas and wife Reba of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Edna Cornish of Newcastle; nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; one brother, Dana Thomas and wife Lora of Wichita, Kansas; one sister, Flossie Thomas of Oklahoma City; several nieces and nephews; and many other loved ones and friends.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the Eisenhour Funeral Home Chapel in Blanchard with interment to follow in the Blanchard Cemetery.
