David Sterling Swihart, 83, of Blanchard, died Saturday, February 16, 2019, in Oklahoma City. The son of Enos Elmer “Pete” Swihart and May Pearl (Jones) Swihart, he was born January 19, 1936, in Tabler, Oklahoma.
David served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He married Joy Foster on December 29, 1953 in El Reno, Oklahoma. David worked as a civilian employee in the Air Force as a communications and electronics logistics manager until his retirement in 1992 at McClellan AFB, Sacramento, California. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Blanchard, the Oklahoma Llama Association, and the VFW. In his spare time, David enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, boating, and camping. He also enjoyed raising llamas on his farm, doing genealogy, and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Sharon, Alice, and Margaret.
David is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joy Swihart; one daughter, Teri Washburn; two sons, Mark Swihart and his wife, Dagmar, and Paul Swihart and his wife, Rebecca, all of Blanchard; ten grandchildren, Derek Washburn, Christopher Washburn and his wife, Abigail, Amanda Washburn and Josh Davis, Barbara Miller and husband, Mike, Malissa Perez and husband, Fil, Bonnie Swihart, Samantha Swihart, Katie Swihart, DonnaSue Bowen and husband, Trent, and Justeen Kincaid and husband, Scott; twelve great grandchildren, Caden, Bradley, Jaci, Corbyn, Mark, David, Annemarie, Zoee, Blake, Delilah, Alice, and Ben; two brothers, Sam Swihart of Oklahoma City, and Otis Swihart of California; and many other loved ones and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, February 22, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church in Blanchard.
Burial will follow in the Blanchard Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard.
