Bob A. Smith was born on August 10, 1930 in Earlsboro, Oklahoma to Oron and Ada Smith. He was one of ten children and was the seventh son. He died peacefully at his home in Blanchard on February 9, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He attended school in Coalgate, Oklahoma.

He proudly served in the United States Army. He was a graduate of Oklahoma State University. He also received a graduate degree from Syracuse University and was a graduate of Oklahoma City University School of Law.

Bob married Jean (Dewbre) Smith on September 1, 1956 and would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this year.

Bob was employed for many years by the Federal Aviation Administration where he rose to the top of the agency prior to his retirement in 1986. Following his retirement from FAA, he began practicing law with his daughter, Lesley Smith March in the firm of Smith and Smith. His son, Timothy Smith, and daughter, Jennifer Smith Kappel, worked with him in the law firm.

Bob loved the practice of law and practiced for many years in Purcell, Oklahoma. In 2008, he was selected to serve as Chief Judge of the Cheyenne Arapaho Tribal Court and served in that capacity until his retirement in 2015. He was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association for 56 years. He served as President of the McClain County Bar Association. He assisted in the implementation of and served on the first McClain County Drug Court. He was a board member for Oklahoma Indian Legal Services, (O.I.L.S.) and also served as Interim Director. He served over 29 years as a board member for the Blanchard Cemetery Association and was President at the time of his death. He served for several years on the board of McClain Grady EMS and was also the President of this organization at the time of his death. He was a member of the Blanchard Lions Club. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the McAlester Scottish Rite and the Capitol Hill Commandry. Bob was a member of Agape Baptist Church in Blanchard where he served as a Sunday school teacher and a deacon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, of the home, daughter Lesley Smith March and husband Tom of Moore, son James Smith and wife, Dawn of Blanchard, daughter Jennifer Smith Kappel and husband James of Oklahoma City and son Timothy of Blanchard. Four granddaughters: Rebecca Miller and husband Cory of Weatherford, Rachel Smith of Weatherford, Taylor Kappel of Oklahoma City and Kyndal March of Moore, sister Jackie Anderson of Coalgate as well as his beloved nieces and nephews. Bob lived a life of service to others.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 2:00 P.M., at First Baptist Church, Cole, Oklahoma. Burial will follow in the Blanchard Cemetery.
