Richard Hampton Slate, 67, of Blanchard, died Friday, December 20, 2013 at his home. The son of William Roy and Sara Elizabeth (Sapp) Slate, he was born May 17, 1946 in Dalton, Georgia.

He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and graduated from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Management. He was employed by the Harris Company as an illustrator. Richard married Lou Carol Pearson on May 20, 1971 in Norman, Oklahoma and was a Baptist in faith. In his spare time, Richard enjoyed working in his yard and garden, planting flowers and trees, and tending to his koi pond. He also enjoyed vacationing in Florida and was known as a master sand castle builder to his family. Richard loved Christmas, Coca Cola, trains, his dog, Sweet Georgia Brown, and most of all, spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Richard is survived by his wife, Carol Slate, of Blanchard; two daughters, Heather Bayless and husband, Jason, of Newcastle and Elizabeth King and husband, Robert, of Blanchard; one son, Ted Slate of Norman; a brother, Bill Slate and his wife, Genny, of Marietta, Georgia; a sister, Mary Anne Roos of Sylva, North Carolina; his half-sister, Denise Tilyard and her husband, Doug, of Enid; several nieces and their families; and many other loved ones and friends.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, December 27, 2013 at Newcastle United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Blanchard Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard. Online obituary and guestbook are available at www.eisenhourfh.com
