William Alfred “Bill” Richey, 95, of Chickasha, Oklahoma died Thursday, October 8, 2020, in Norman, Oklahoma. The son of Eugene Richey and Grace Ellen (Swanson) Richey, he was born June 15, 1925, in Blanchard, Oklahoma.

Bill married the love of his life, Nauweeta Rae “Weedy” Golden on April 21, 1945, in Chickasha. He served honorably in the United Sates Army during World War II. After returning to the United States, he attended the University of Oklahoma and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy. Bill had his first job as a pharmacist in Dumas, Texas, where he and his wife enjoyed the friendship of many wonderful Texans. His daughter, Hyla, was born before they could cross back over the Red River, as Bill and Weedy enjoyed saying. His daughter dubbed him Dear-ole-Dad soon after she was able to talk and many family members and friends call him that. He worked for many years as a pharmacist at Liberty Drug in Chickasha. He was a real life “drugstore cowboy.” He and Weedy enjoyed working together on the Richey Angus Farm to enrich the standard for the Angus breed during the majority of their lives. They loved the land and their cattle. They built the Doctor’s Building in Chickasha, a medical specialties building; Bill opened his Chickasha Hearing Center practice there and was a hearing instrument specialist for many years. He helped countless people hear and enriched their lives.

Bill was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Chickasha. He served as President of the AMBUCS Chickasha chapter and was active in many other civic organizations. He also served on the Chickasha School Board. Bill was very talented with his hands and could do almost anything, from carpentry to building a barn, or putting up a barbed-wire fence. He was a sweet, kind, gentle soul. He lived a full and honorable life and was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. Bill loved his family and friends. He loved the land and he loved OU football. Boomer Sooner!

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 72 years, Weedy Richey; and five brothers, Purman, Shi, Leroy, Jack, and Raymond Richey.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Hyla Richey and P.J. Sanders, of Portland, Oregon; one sister, Fern Dennis of Blanchard; two brothers, Carl Richey and his wife Beverly, of Yukon, and AB Richey and his wife Nancy, of Anadarko; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other loved ones and friends.

The family would like to give special recognition and thank you to: close friend and physician, Dr. Linda Johnson; from Physicians House Calls Dr. Essex and Andrea Roberts; Rhonda Wallace and her staff at Central Oklahoma Healthcare; from Lifeline Home Health Brice Eaton, Kathy Miller, Jeff Barr, Sarah Upton and the other staff members who took care of Bill; from Brookdale Assisted Living April Rowell, Chris Wilhelm, Leah Bell, Larry Lasiter, Brenda Flanagan, Kathy Winn, Susie Chaney, Lyndsey Wyatt, Kayla Wilson, Kitty Madson, Mattie Malone, Natalie Benoit, Chef Stephanie Gonzales, and so many others who took loving care of Bill.
