Bessie Viola Mitchell, 80, of Del City, died Thursday, March 8, 2018, at her home. The daughter of James Lloyd Birdsong and Bessie Lou (Lowrance) Birdsong, she was born September 16, 1937 in Clayton, Oklahoma.

Bessie Viola married William George Mitchell on December 23, 1967 in Del City. She worked in the cafeteria at Crooked Oak Schools for many years and was Christian in faith. In her spare time, she enjoyed going to the lake, camping, fishing, and gardening. Christmas was her favorite time of year. She was a true animal lover and enjoyed feeding and caring for many different types of animals during her life. Bessie Viola’s grandchildren were her greatest love and enjoyment.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Eugene Birdsong and Charlie Birdsong.

Bessie Viola is survived by her husband of fifty years , George Mitchell, of Del City; one daughter, Lisa Jones and her husband, Rick, of Blanchard; three sons, Ron Birdsong and his wife, Misty, of Moore, Charles Birdsong and his wife, Sheela, of Bowie, Texas, and Gene Mitchell and his wife, Lisa, of Ashland; grandchildren, Chris Birdsong and his wife, Gina, of Newcastle, Heather Birdsong of Blanchard, Michael Jones of Blanchard, Kayla Jones of Blanchard, and Sam Mitchell of Ashland; four great grandchildren, Maddox, Beau, Chloie, and Rimie; two sisters, Margaret Kerr of Calumet and Pat Giles of Holdenville; and many other loved ones and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at the Eisenhour Funeral Home Chapel in Blanchard.

Burial will follow in the Blanchard Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard.
