Mary Francis Marney
March 5, 1938 - April 20, 2026
Mary Francis (Mashburn) Marney was born March 5, 1938, in Haskell, Oklahoma, to Erma Lois (Stockstill) and Reverend Simanthy "Si" Louis Mashburn. She passed from this life on Monday, April 20, 2026, at her home having attained the age of 88 years, 1 month, and 15 days.
Mary graduated Central High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She completed high school in 11 years and was at the top of her class of over 2,000. She spent much of her childhood traveling between Oklahoma and California as her parents, like many others during that era, sought a method to make a living.
As her father was being hired to be the pastor of Little Rock Free Will Baptist Church in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, Mary met Johnny Charles Marney, as this was his home church. On March 24, 1956, the couple were united in marriage in John's sister's home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Mary accompanied Johnny as he served in the United States Air Force for over 22 years. While living in Orlando, Florida, the couple had 2 beautiful children, Johnnie and Debra.
Mary helped to support her family by working outside the home as a legal secretary. Over the years, she worked for Kelly Girls, as well as various attorneys and officer's clubs while in Europe. After John's military career retirement, she became a dedicated homemaker and farm wife. In 1985, they built a brand-new home on Lake Hudson where she enjoyed life as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker, and farm wife.
Mary enjoyed bowling, playing golf, and going fishing. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Upon inception, Mary served as secretary of Cornerstone Outreach Revival Center in Locust Grove. Her professional experience was instrumental in the church's establishment. Mary has been a very strong person and Christian woman. She has faced lots of personal trauma and heartaches, as she has lived through the deaths of both of her children, both grandchildren, and 1 great grandson.
Mary and John spent 70 years happily married. Today, she is survived by: her husband, John, of the home, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by: her parents; 1 son: Johnnie R. Marney; 1 daughter: Debra (Marney) Clark; 1 grandson: Loren C. Lape; 1 granddaughter: Kendall K. Potts; 1 great grandson: Thomas Potts, 4 sisters: Ellen Smith, Betty Flanary, Dorothy Kelley, and Garnett Hatheway; and 2 brothers: Raymond Mashburn and Bill Mashburn.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Mary Marney with funeral services being held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Cornerstone Outreach in Locust Grove, Oklahoma. Sister Edna Kiddy will officiate. Following the service, Mary will be laid to rest at the Rose Cemetery near Rose, Oklahoma. Locust Grove Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
