Charles passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. He was 97.
Born in Quay, OK on December 14, 1927, to John O. and Jeff (Simmons) Berg. Charles was raised and educated in his birth community and attended Quay Public Schools. Charles faithfully served his country in the United States Navy and received his honorable discharge. On September 2, 1950, in Stillwater, OK, Charles married the love of his life Letha Holt. Their marriage lasted for over 73 years before her passing in 2023. Their marriage was gifted with 4 children, Carolyn, John, Charles, and Ernie. Charles provided for his family working for Campbell's Soup Company in California as a painter. Following his retirement, he moved his family to Chelsea in 1969 and called that community home for the rest of his life.
A man that had to keep busy, Charles with the help of his sons, owned the Berg's Citgo Station in Adair for many years. He ran cattle and with the help of his wife put in a big vegetable garden each year. Charles liked to fish. He looked forward to trips to Hat Creek by Mt. Lassen in California, where they fished for trout or to Big Cabin Creek for a day of sand bass fishing. In later life Charles enjoyed a day of horse racing in Claremore with his sons. A man that loved his family. Nothing was better than just a day when everyone could be together. When grandchildren came along Charles excelled at being a grandpa just as he had at being a dad. Charles loved the Lord and faithfully studied God's Word. He and wife Letha served in whatever church they attended and together led their family by example. Some of daughter Carolyn's special memories were of going to church with her dad.
A man that has left a huge legacy that will live on for generations to come. Charles is survived by his children, Carolyn Thompson, John Berg and wife Gina, Charles Berg and wife Caroll, and Ernie Berg, grandchildren, Dwin Thompson and wife Kristy, Michelle Burch and husband Darrell, Duane Thompson, Darren Thompson and wife Alicia, Josh Berg and wife Lindsay, Kaci Stand and husband Trenton, Alisha Dyson and husband Tony, Jeremy Berg, Chris Berg and wife Dakota, Tamara Kiethley and husband Zach, Fletcher Berg, Troy Thompson, and Lexy Thompson, 24 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
