John Caldwell Thompson

Memorial services for John Thompson, 91 of Pryor, will be held on Saturday, June 21 at 2:00 PM at Key Funeral Home in Pryor. John passed away on Sunday, June 15 in Pryor. Cremation arrangements and services are under the direction of Key Funeral Home in Pryor.

John Caldwell Thompson was born on March 21, 1923 in Muskogean, Michigan to James Harold and Doris Irene (Shielder) Thompson. John grew up in Michigan, graduating from high school in Battle Creek, Michigan. Soon after high school, he was drafted into the Army Air Corp during World War II and served for 4 years; he was honorably discharged and returned home.

John first laid eyes on his future wife at a USO Dance in Oklahoma City. He was arriving at the dance as she was leaving and one look at her and he knew he was going to marry her someday; John married Marian Louree Cejda on February 22, 1946 in Oklahoma City. They made their home in Oklahoma City for several years and had seven children, four boys and 3 girls. John was very active in the life of his family; he was involved with his boys in Boy Scouts for many years and Marian very active with the girls in Girls Scouts.

John worked in Oklahoma City until 1967 when they moved to Bartlesville. He worked for the City Of Bartlesville in water and waste management, then in 1977 he and Marian moved to Pryor where he worked at the OOWA also in water and waste management. He retired around 1989.

John was a history buff and loved to read in his spare time. He never met a stranger and loved talking and visiting with people. Marian passed away in 1992 and they lacked just a couple of months being married 50 years. They were a wonderful example to their kids.

John is survived by three sons, Harold Thompson and wife Jeanne of Sapulpa, David Thompson of Oklahoma City and Richard Thompson and wife Ruth of Bartlesville; three daughters, Lynn Thompson of Pryor, Beth Foster of Bartlesville and Judith Housley and husband Dale of Sand Springs; 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; one brother James Thompson and wife Fairy of Florida and one sister Marlene Koerner of California.
