Joyce Joan "Jody" Russell, a longtime resident of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2026, in Locust Grove at the age of 77 years.
Jody was born on February 20, 1949, in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, to J.W. Mounce and Lola Irene (Cooper) Mounce. She spent most of her life in the Locust Grove community she dearly loved, with only a brief time spent living in Tulsa. She graduated from Locust Grove High School with the Class of 1967. Continuing her education, Jody attended Pryor Beauty College, becoming a certified beautician in 1973. Later, she expanded her skills by attending Tulsa Air Park Vo-Tech, where she earned certification as an Air Frame Welder in 1990.
Jody began her working career as a secretary at a tag agency in Tulsa. In 1975, she fulfilled her dream of owning her own business when she opened a beauty salon in Locust Grove. For nearly five decades, she faithfully served her clients and community through her salon, working alongside her sister, Vicky, for many of those years. She continued operating her salon until her retirement in 2022.
A woman of strong faith, Jody was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Locust Grove. Her faith, kindness, and servant's heart were evident in the way she cared for her family, friends, and neighbors.
Outside of work, Jody enjoyed spending time on her farm, tending to her cattle and caring for her animals. She loved cooking and hosting large gatherings where family and friends could come together to enjoy good food and fellowship. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved to spoil. She rarely missed an opportunity to watch her grandson play football and cheer him on from the stands. In her younger years, she also enjoyed attending horse races with her Uncle Jack Cook, creating many cherished memories along the way.
Jody is survived by: 1 son: Brian Russell of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; 1 step-son: Terry Wayne Russell and wife Donna of Kellyville, Oklahoma; 1 grandson: Brett Russell and Chelsea Carnesof Locust Grove, Oklahoma, Cody Russell and wife Lindsey; 5 great grandchildren: Diesel Russell, Braxton Russell, Jaxson Russell, Serenity Lovelady, Kimber Russell, Tayver Russell and Averie Russell; 3 nephews: Monte Mounce, Wendall Mounce, and Jackie Mounce; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
Jody was preceded in death by: her parents; 1 brother: Robbie Mounce; 1 sister: Vicky (Mounce) Pierce, 1 grandson Robby Russell.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the Locust Grove Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jeff Blair officiating. Interment will follow at McClain Cemetery in Locust Grove, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to Locust Grove Funeral Home.
