Phyllis Ann Simpson
February 6, 1974 - May 9, 2026
Phyllis Ann Simpson, a lifelong resident of Mayes County, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026, in Salina, Oklahoma, at the age of 52 years. She was born on February 6, 1974, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Hugh Gene Simpson and Wanda Jewel (Phillkoff) Simpson.
Phyllis grew up in the Hadley Mountain and Locust Grove areas and attended Locust Grove Schools, graduating with the Class of 1992. Following high school, she attended classes at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, where she earned a degree in travel and tourism. Phyllis dreamed of becoming a cruise line director, but her deep love and devotion to her mother kept her close to home, never wanting to leave her mom alone.
A dedicated and hardworking woman, Phyllis began working at the Country Cottage during high school and continued there after graduation. She later worked as a fry cook at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, where she remained employed for more than 30 years. Her strong work ethic and dependable nature were well known by those who worked alongside her.
Phyllis was truly one of a kind. There was no box anyone could place her in. She was outspoken, opinionated, and never afraid to say exactly what was on her mind. She enjoyed what she called "political bitching," and those who knew her understood that her fiery opinions were simply part of what made her uniquely Phyllis.
She loved being outdoors and was often seen walking all over town. Some of her favorite moments were taking mile section walks with her mother. She also enjoyed reading, listening to music, and making shopping trips to Walmart with her mom, memories that became some of her most treasured times.
Phyllis is survived by: 2 brothers: James Austin Simpson and wife Connie of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, and Hugh Brian Paraschov Simpson and Shannon Brumley-Simpson of Foyil, Oklahoma; Nieces and Nephews: Amanda Barnes and husband JR of Owasso, Oklahoma, Austin Simpson, Brett Simpson, both of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; Abigail Barnes of Owasso, Oklahoma, Michael Simpson of Burlington, Kansas, Raymond Simpson and Brandon Boyd of Burlington, Kansas, Scott Simpson of Wagoner, Oklahoma, Brittany Leach and Tyler of Foyil, Oklahoma, Matt Simpson of Foyil, Oklahoma, Carrie Theilin and husband David, Alex Cox, Amber White and husband Kasey, Courtney Brumley and boyfriend Terry Hanson, and Jazyman Ewing.
