Roy Ross
August 23, 1944 - July 3, 2026
Roy Earl Ross, 81 years young, passed away peacefully at his home on July 3rd, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Roy was born on August 23, 1944, in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, to Jim and Jessie (McFarland) Ross. He grew up in the community he loved and graduated from Locust Grove High School with the Class of 1962. On May 29, 1969, he married the love of his life, Barbara Jane Edens, beginning a marriage of laughter, devotion, and a never-ending love.
Roy worked in his early years as a carpenter before retiring from Express Welding, where he served as the company's tool-room manager. Roy was active in the LG Round-up Club. He was instrumental in helping build two rodeo arenas, one south of town and the one west of town on 412 Highway. He served as President for a few years and held team roping on Sunday afternoons and Thursday nights. He took great pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a helping hand.
Roy never met a stranger. His outgoing personality and genuine kindness allowed him to make friends wherever he went. He had a passion for life and enjoyed woodworking, raising sheep for 49 years, dancing, listening to music, fishing, and camping. Roy loved attending Smith Chapel Church. He enjoyed visiting with his church family and he believed "you are not promised tomorrow so make the most of today." He especially enjoyed helping young people across the nation, leaving a lasting impact on many lives. Above all else, Roy treasured the time spent with his family, who were the center of his world.
Roy is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Ross, of the home; his children, Layne Ross and wife, Ginger, of Rose, Oklahoma, and Polly Robinson and husband, David, of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Shyla Motter and husband, Audie, of Pryor, Oklahoma; Cody Ross of Salina, Oklahoma; Wyatt Ross and wife, Bethany, of Pryor, Oklahoma; Samantha Sloan and husband, Korbyn, of the home; Jessie Robinson of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; Waylon Ross of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; and Dusty Ross of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; and 6 great-grandkids. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, along with a host of cherished friends and a multitude of bonus kids.
He preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Jessie Ross; siblings Juanita Downing, Mavis Rowbotham, C.J. Ross, a baby brother and baby sister; 6 brothers-in-law; and multiple aunts and uncles.
Roy's legacy of kindness, generosity, laughter, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by everyone whose lives he has touched.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 9, 2026, at the Locust Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Pastor Mark Coday will officiate. Interment will follow at the Hogan Cemetery in Locust Grove, Oklahoma.
