Erma Lee Rogers
January 30, 1929 - December 21, 2025
Essie Erma Lee "Erma Lee" Rogers, age 96, of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2025, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She was born January 30, 1929, in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, to William Clyde Condit and Pigeon (Madison) Condit.
Erma Lee was raised in Locust Grove and graduated from Locust Grove High School with the Class of 1947. In her younger years, she traveled with her family to California, where they picked cotton, but Mayes County remained her lifelong home.
A true example of hard work and dedication, Erma Lee held many jobs throughout her life. She was self-employed as a dairy farmer until 1985 and later became a beloved employee of Locust Grove Funeral Home, where she worked as a receptionist. She also worked in reception at the Siloam Springs Casino, at the Yarn Mill and Fabricut in Pryor, the Locust Grove and Salina Nursing Homes, the chicken plant in Decatur, Arkansas, and as a caregiver to many in the community, with her final patient being Beulah Parker. No matter the job, Erma Lee poured her heart into serving others.
Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She attended Locust Grove Free Will Baptist Church in its earlier years, later worshiped at Smith Chapel in Rose, Oklahoma, and was a devoted member of Little Rock Free Will Baptist Church. There, she often led the singing and joyfully played her tambourine. Erma Lee loved reading her Bible, believed deeply in the power of prayer, and lived her faith through kindness and service. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening vegetables, cooking for her boys, attending auctions and yard sales, and proudly hunting for bargains. Erma Lee enjoyed going dancing and square dancing, and she loved traveling on vacations with her brothers. In her later years, she found enjoyment in word search puzzles. Even with automatic watering systems in place, she could often be found personally watering the livestock - proof of her strong work ethic and caring nature. Erma Lee will be remembered as a hardworking woman with a tender heart. She was loving, compassionate, and generous, always willing to help anyone in need, including strangers. Her legacy of faith, kindness, and selflessness lives on through her family and all who were blessed to know her.
