Reverend Charles Black

Funeral services for the Reverend Charles Black, 76, Pryor, are Monday, July 24, 2006, 2 p.m., at Stephens Memorial Chapel, Pryor. The Reverend Ray Gwartney will officiate and burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Stephens Memorial.

Black was born Dec. 27, 1929, in Cassville, Mo.; he died July 20, 2006 in Claremore.

Black had lived in Pryor since 1977, moving from the Greenbrier Community. He attended school in Miami and graduated from Miami High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the United States Army. He was an ordained minister, who had pastored churches in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and New Mexico. He also had worked for the State of Oklahoma in the field of child care at both Whitaker Children's Home and Hissom; he retired after 12 years of employment. After his retirement Black worked part-time for about 20 years for Jim Green, Jim Green Funeral Home. He was of the Free Will Baptist faith, and at the time of his death he was attending church at the First Baptist Church. He married Carrie Smith on Jan. 5, 1958. in Anderson, Mo. He was an avid collector of many different things. He also liked to tinker with old cars.

Black is survived by his wife Carrie of the home; one son Steve Black and wife Cindy of Pryor; two granddaughters, Heather Black of Moore, Becca Anderson and husband Mike of Pryor; two great-grandchildren; one brother Robert Black and wife Connie of Williamsburg, Va., and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Luther and Myrtle (Taylor) Black and one son Gary Dean.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, July 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Stephens Memorial Chapel.
