Robert James Katen
June 9, 1920 - October 30, 2009
Robert James Katen, 89, of Pryor, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2009 in Pryor, Oklahoma. He was born on June 9, 1920 in Hemingford, Nebraska, the son of William Michael Katen and Theresa (McCabe) Katen.
Robert faithfully served his country in the United States Army. He married Margie Billingslea on February 20, 1946 in Chadron, Nebraska. They moved to Pryor from Nebraska in 1951. Robert worked for Georgia Pacific in Pryor, retiring in 1977. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Loving baseball, Robert started the American Legion Baseball team. He enjoyed bowling and also playing golf. Robert was a member of the St. Mark's Catholic Church in Pryor. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who dearly loved his family. He leaves many wonderful memories for his family to cherish.
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Mark's Catholic Church with Father Celestine officiating. A Rosary will be held on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the Shipman Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the Ross-Mayes Cemetery in Salina, Oklahoma.
Robert is survived by his wife, Margie of the home; his children, Steven L. and wife, Laura Katen of Yukon, OK, Michael J. and wife, Robin Katen of Salina, OK, Brenda O'dell of Jacksonville, FL, Barbara Winder of Pryor, OK, Jeanett and husband, John Key of Pryor, OK, Donna and husband, Neil Hines of Sperry, OK; one brother, Harold Katen of Tucson, AR; 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Theresa Katen; two brothers, Emmett and Bill Katen.
