Wayne McCartney
March 16, 1931 - March 14, 2012
Funeral services for Wayne McCartney, 80, of Locust Grove, will be held on Saturday at 2:00 PM at Locust Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Rev. Jeff Blair will officiate with burial following at Hogan Cemetery in Locust Grove.
Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6-8 PM at the Key Funeral Home in Locust Grove.
Wayne was born on March 16, 1931 in Tulsa to George Pennington and Edna Esther (Stewart) McCartney. He passed away on March 14, 2012 in Tulsa.
Wayne grew up and attended school in Tulsa, Cave Springs and then graduated from Locust Grove High School in 1949. He joined the U.S. Air Force and served a short time. After being honorably discharged, he was employed by Cramer and Dunlap Tank Company and McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa.
He and Ima Jean Hill were married on January 17, 1951 and they had three sons; Anthony, Robert and Howard. They lived in Tulsa for a few years after they were married then moved to Locust Grove in 1953 where they have lived ever since. Wayne worked for Lonestar Cement Plant in Pryor as a welder and mechanic for 28 years and was also a farmer and rancher.
Wayne was very active in youth and community activities in his younger years. He was a coach and avid supporter of Locust Grove Little League baseball and girls softball, long time auctioneer for the Mayes County Junior Livestock Auction, Locust Grove Civil Defense Director, Reserve Deputy for the Mayes County Sheriff's Department and the Locust Grove C.B. Club. He also enjoyed restoring old tractors.
He was a longtime member of the Locust Grove Free Will Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Jean of the home; 2 sons- Robert McCartney and wife Cheryl of Chouteau and Ray McCartney and wife Tracey of Siloam Springs and 5 grandchildren- Allison, Kara, Micah, Anna and Matthew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 young son, Tony.
