Jean McCartney
June 17, 1934 - March 12, 2025
Ima Jean McCartney was born on June 17, 1934, in Rose, Oklahoma, to John and Bertha (Boyd) Hill. She peacefully entered her heavenly home on March 12, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 90.
Jean spent her early years in the Rose community, attending Smith Chapel School before continuing her education at Locust Grove High School through her junior year. On January 17, 1951, she married the love of her life, Wayne McCartney. Together, they built a beautiful life, with three sons being born to this union - Tony, Robert, and Ray. After a few years in Tulsa, they made Locust Grove their permanent home in 1953. Jean later returned to school, proudly graduating with the Locust Grove High School Class of 1964.
A dedicated and hardworking woman, Jean spent a decade working alongside Mrs. Acres as a teacher's aide and assistant librarian from 1966 to 1976. She embraced her role as a little league mom, band mom, and proudly served as the locker room mom for the Locust Grove High School Girls' Basketball Team, working alongside Coach Johnny Allen. She and Wayne also served as Reserve Deputies for the Mayes County Sheriff's Department, reflecting their deep commitment to their community.
Jean had a servant's heart and a love for people. She volunteered at the Locust Grove Public Library, was a member of the C.B. Club, and was a devoted member of the Locust Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she cherished her church family. Whether caring for her neighbors or supporting aging relatives, Jean embodied kindness, generosity, and resilience.
She never met a stranger and will be remembered as a woman of great strength, unwavering love, and a heart for others. Practical yet generous, selfless yet strong - Jean's legacy of love and devotion to her family and community will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, church family, and neighbors.
Jean is survived by: her son, Ray McCartney, and his wife, Tracey, of Springdale, Arkansas; her daughter-in-law, Cheryl McCartney, of Chouteau, Oklahoma; five beloved grandchildren: Allison McCartney, Micah McCartney, Kara McCartney, Anna Scarbrough, and Matthew McCartney; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, neighbors, and her cherished church family.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; her sons, Tony McCartney and Robert McCartney; and her brothers, Wesley Hill and Joe Hill.
A celebration of Jean's life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Locust Grove Free Will Baptist Church, with Pastor Jeff Blair officiating. She will be laid to rest at Hogan Cemetery near Locust Grove, Oklahoma. Services are entrusted to Locust Grove Funeral Home.
