Sonny Jackson
January 4, 1952 - July 8, 2026
Jack "Sonny" Jackson was born on January 04, 1952, in Pryor, Oklahoma, to Jack D. and Dorothy Ada (Wilson) Jackson. He was raised and attended school in Chouteau, where he graduated high school in 1970. Most all of Sonny's life was spent in Chouteau, Oklahoma. He started working at the age of twelve at Lee Bell's DX station. He later began working at Gas-n-Go and eventually was managing twelve gas stations for the company by the time he turned twenty. Sonny moved back to Chouteau in 1976 and once again worked for Mr. Bell at the DX station. He eventually bought the DX station in 1978. By 1979 he bought his first wrecker, and in 1981 he added a diesel wrecker to his service. That same year he became a co-owner of the Chouteau Truck Plaza. This amounted to three businesses he was operating all at the same time. Sonny owned and operated numerous successful businesses throughout his life. These included the forementioned gas stations, an auto salvage yard, a mechanic shop, and a wrecker service, to mention a few. He also worked for the state of Oklahoma Department of Transportation, as well as Wil-Grow Industries for a few years.
Sonny worked daily. Although he did take a day off on November 25, 1983, to marry Tami Johnson, in Chouteau. From sun up, to sun down, he would occupy his time with something productive and profitable. Always fair in his dealings, and always generous; Sonny set a high standard in all of his endeavors. Stubborn and old fashioned, Sonny had little use for technology, and he was notoriously frugal with his finances. Sonny knew what it meant to be poor. And he always went out of the way to help someone he felt deserved a break. He remembered the times that were financially hard for him and he worked endlessly to ensure those circumstances were never revisited. Through these efforts, he instilled a strong work ethic into his children and extended family that will live on for years to come.
Sonny departed this life on July 08, 2026, in Pryor, Oklahoma, at the age of 74.
Sonny is survived by his wife, Tami Jackson; children: Jacqeline (Drew) Casey, Kenneth (Tarah) Jackson M.D., Boone (Tori) Johnson, Sis Johnson, Emily "Bobby" (Justin) Shoemaker, J.D. "Buster" (Regina) Jackson, and; grandchildren: Justin, Jeremy, Olivia, Liam, Mariah, Sydney, Slayde, Jhett, Payton, Brantley, and Jack; great-grandchildren: Kensley, Kendal, Kylie, and Marigold; brother, Mike Jackson; sisters: Linda Steddum, Barbara Camp, and Nancy Cantu; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Jack D. and Dorothy Ada Jackson.
