John Henry Hofmeister
January 18, 1940 - February 10, 2025
John Henry Hofmeister, born on January 18, 1940, in Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away on February 10, 2025, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, at the age of 85.
John had a distinguished career as an aircraft mechanic and inspector at McDonnell Douglas, later known as Boeing, where he demonstrated his expertise and commitment to aviation. His technical skills were paralleled by his dedication to service, as he proudly served in the United States Army.
Passionate about auto racing, John was not just a spectator; he was deeply involved in the sport, especially in drag racing. He gained respect and recognition in the automotive community winning several awards from the Buick Car Club. Known affectionately as the "carburetor man," he was an expert in engine tuning, contributing more than just his skills to various dirt tracks.
John is survived by his son, Todd Hofmeister and wife Anita of Flower Mound, Texas; daughter, Jennifer Gregory of Claremore, Oklahoma; sisters, Mary Nicodemus of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Carolyn Dollar and husband Bob of Sturgeon, Missouri, Rebecca Kilgore of Chelsea, Oklahoma, and Patsy Vance and husband Lemuel of Salina, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Hannah Tran and husband Dennis of Carrollton, Texas, Benjamin Hofmeister and wife Briahnna of North Richland Hills, Texas, and Raymond Hofmeister of Pryor, Oklahoma.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John Hofmeister and Mary (Kroeker) Hofmeister-Krehbiel, and his beloved wife, Jeanie Hofmeister.
Funeral services for John will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 14, 2025, at the Eden Mennonite Church with Pastor Dave Wiens officiating. Burial will follow in the Chouteau West Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 13, 2025, in the Shipman's Funeral Home Chapel.
