Square Cedar Cemetery


ENID — Funeral service for Lois Irene Melvin, 86, of Enid, will be 1 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2010, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home with Wade Readnour officiating. Burial will follow in Square Cedar Cemetery, Cleo Springs. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, from 3 until 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.

Lois was born to Ira Manuel and Fannie Eugene (Hensley) Beckner on March 19, 1924, in Ringwood, Oklahoma, and died on Thursday, September 30, 2010, in Enid.

She grew up in Ringwood and attended Ringwood Schools. During WWII, she took welding classes at the Armory in Enid. Lois married William "Bill" Melvin in September 1943 in Enid. She was the bookkeeper for the service stations that Bill owned. She worked as a waitress after the children were raised. Lois sold Avon, starting in the 1950s until she retired from selling in 1995. She was a member of the Golden Rule Club and was a den mother for Cub Scouts.

Lois was preceded in death by the father of her children, Bill Melvin; four sisters, and eight brothers.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Larry & Janice Melvin, Enid, William "Bill" & Myra Melvin, Sparks, Nevada, Ron & Freddie Melvin, Enid, and Anita & Wade Readnour of Yukon; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
