South Mennonite Brethren Cemetery

HENNESSEY - Memorial service for Dr. Naomi Mae Fast, 82, will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2012, at First United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Albert McVety. A family graveside service will be held earlier in South Mennonite Cemetery, Fairview, under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home, Hennessey. Visitation with the family is 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012, at the funeral home.

Naomi was born on the family farm southeast of Fairview on May 4, 1929, to John M. and Lydia Fruechting Hein and died Sunday, April 15, 2012, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, Enid. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at the age of 12 and became a member of South Mennonite Brethren Church of Fairview after being baptized in the Cimarron River.

She graduated from eighth grade in a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Fairview High School in 1946. She received her bachelor's degree from Phillips University with a dual major in biology and chemistry. Naomi graduated from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in 1959, with the degree of Dr. of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her internship at Kansas City Hospital of Osteopathic Medicine.

Naomi married Wilmer Dean Fast in Fairview on July 25, 1948. The couple moved to Hennessey in 1963 and started a family practice medical clinic, where they practiced medicine until they retired in 1988.

She served on the Hennessey School Board from 1974 until 1979.

Naomi is survived by her husband, Dr. Wilmer D. Fast of the home; daughter, Mary Kay Kimmel and husband David of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and grandson, Chris Kimmel of Denver.

She was preceded in death by both parents and one sister. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made through the funeral home to American Heart Association. (Submitted by family)
